Hi friends. I think i was 15 or 16 years old when i frist got to know internet. At that time, i did not know blog yet, all i did was going to the chat room, chat with the stranger from all over the place, then we became friends. Because i did not have a computer back then, so we have to send letters to each other and became pen friends. I has to go the internet bar to go online and chat with my friends. It sounds crazy, but it's true.
So, How old were you when you first know internet? And what did you do? Please do share with us.

It took a bit of math on my part to figure it out but I was 31 when I first used the internet...the year was 2000. It was also the year I met my Hubby. I'm self taught and actually had fun learning it...a lot of trial and error.

When I got my first pc, I asked my brother to show me two things: how to turn it off and on, and how to get on and off the internet...trial and error for all the rest.
You made me remember too that my cousin went to a year long college class to learn computer programming, won awards and entered compitions...then she calls me up one day and asked me how to do html. I told her I thought you went to college for this...she says well I did but they didn't teach us html...html is pretty basic stuff for a computer programmer. I'm self taught and don't know much about it but then I'm not a pc programer either LOL

I am 30 years old now and I am aware of the internet already around 1995 but that time its being used in other countries like in the US. Internet was introduced to my country a few years after that which was in year 2000. I started using the internet in 2001 when internet cafes became available in my country. I was 21 years old that time and going to graduate in college.

Hello Sophie,
Thanks for responding my discussion. I think most of us start getting to know internet from the internet cafe as computer is very expensive back then. We are lucky that we now have our own computer and laptop, some even have more than 1!

i probably knew internet probably in 5th grade, even though its embarrassing cause im only 21. but it's true. I looked totally stupid when i set up my first email account in an internet cafe, and people back then were really patient with their dial-up connection. we only use prepaid cards here before to have a connection.

I was in high school when I first became aware of something called the internet. My age was around 15 I guess .... it was the year 1999 when all sorts of catastrophic articles started coming up about the Y2K problem we were going to face as we approached the year 2000. That time reading some article published in some daily I became familiar what an internet was. I used to live in a small town and till that time wide availability of internet was not there in our town. Only a few offices used to have them and that too was a very slow dial up modem connection. My first seeing the internet web page was when I wanted to check my results of the engineering entrance examination after high school. A shop was there which was taking Rupees 10( 20 cents approx) and telling the results by checking it from the internet ...... to print it was another 25 cents. That's the first website I had seen. My first hand usage only came when I was in college. And after that as everybody else I too got caught in this powerful world wide web.

Hi, we are about the same age to know about internet. But i was in middle school at that time. I saw there is another discussion talking about what will we do without computers and internet? What will be world become? i should say, we still can live, it's just that the life will slow down, because with the help of internet, everything goes faster and faster, without it, slow down our life. I think i might be happy to see that because we are too busy to enjoy life sometimes.

I'm not sure when I started using the internet but I think I was 17 yrs old. I started using the internet as a way to research for assignments, projects, etc. Later on I learned that I can talk to people from all over the world so I started chatting and got hooked to it for several years. Now logging to the internet is a daily routine because I am also getting my income online.

I was 16, I just graduated from Highschool when I found out about the internet. I had seen some of my classmates talking about online games and where can they rent a computer so I got curious and I go with them and there I discover the net. There is no You Tube back then. My first friendster was Myspace.

Good question and what a brain thinker for me. My son is 15 now and I've used the internet since before he was even born. I've been using computers pretty much since they've been around and affordable to buy. About 18-19 years I would say. I wasn't quite 20 and first place where I have used them was right in high school. The course was Introduction to Business. The first two years we used typewritters then, oh yes I remember, in my Junior year, 1988 was when I had the priviledge of using one and loved them since. I did have a period of about two years, when my son was born until he was almost 2, where I did'nt have or use a computer. Actually ended up selling mine at the time, we needed the money more at that time. A long time for me.

Hi Rustinas.
Thanks for responding my discussion. We've been through the tough time of our generation. What is going to happen in the future, we don't know. I understand back at that time. Money for the family is more important than a computer or knowing internet.

I think I was about 18 or 19. I'm 30 years old so I had survived without it for a few years. My first experience was at my local public library that had one very slow computer stationed near the middle of the room. You had to book time, usually about 15 minutes. My sister tried it first and then I tried it some weeks later. Once again it was pretty slow and the printer was also not very good. Any pictures printed out pretty well looked like connect the dots.
However, when the library updated both my sis and I became hooked. They also got a new printer which helped.

I was about 17. I was in high school and they subscribed to AOL. I thought it was SOOO neat to be able to talk to people all over the world. I became addicted to the internet somewhat & I think it is one of the greatest inventions of all time. I remember pen pals from elementary & middle school:)

Hi Mrsjbelle,
I am the same! I addicted to the chatting room for about 2 or 3 years. I make penpal there. Some of my friend even fall in love with their net friend or pan pal. When we look back, we always laugh, those are the experience only belongs to our generation.

knowing internet for the first the time at 1996, when I was 17 years old.
I have to learn it for communicating with member of family who live in Netherland while I'm in Indonesia. With e-mail I can save a lot of money cause I don't have to buy poststamp or make a direct call. I believe SMS is not familiar at that time.

Hi Herrygs,
Thanks for responding my discussion. It's a smart idea to communicate with your family through internet. Nowadays, you can have mircophone and video to show yourself when you are online. That's a good stuff that internet give us. I still have to say, thanks for the internet!

I would say I was about 26 when I first started. I was home pregnant with my youngest son and decided to buy a computer for something to do when I was out of work. Now that son is 8 and he has been pretty good on the internet since he was 5. He can look up anything and is pretty good on internet. They start them so young in schools these days. He started learning computers and internet is kindergarden. I was surprised recently when he needed to get a list of facts on NY and he went on the computer on his own and wrote a whole page of facts that he got off the internet.

Hi Cahyorini,
So your husband is a IT people, you must know a lots of high tech skill of computers then. i am always wondering why the most people who work in IT area are man? I understand there is still woman worker, but just few of them. Does that have to do with the left brain and right brain thing? But i am surely know myself that i am not good at math, my logic is not good too,so i guess i won't be good a making the computer programs then.lol

Hm...I was probably around 9 or 10. We used to use this free, 33.8k internet service called Fun Cow. The "good" 56k internet connection cost money, so it was only reserved for emergencies and when we had to do online research for homework. I was heavily into RTS at the time like Age of Empires and would play in multiplayer rooms in The Zone. Too bad my crap internet connection caused me to be booted out a lot because I was lagging everyone else.
It was also around that time that I started going onto chat rooms, and let's just say that it opened my eyes to the adult world. My being a kid did not stop people from asking me to "cyber".

Hi Pavithrakathirvel,
Thanks for responding my discussion. Learning is a process. We are eager to learn some new tings, so we start get into it, when we master it, we look for some other new things. That's how we grow. My parents still have no idea about how to surf on the internet, but it doesn't matter, at least, they know how to use cell phone now. Right?
