I dont know if its okay to give a gift. And its a cake for my friend who is 50 years old already. Do you think "cake" is just for young ones birthday only and not for old ones?

I guess not, my grand mother have a cake in her every birthday. I also receive a cake whenever it is my birthday as well as my siblings. It is never our tradition but cake is one of my gift we received during our birthdays. Cake is for all, young or old, even when no one is celebrating any occasion you can have a cake as much as you want. take care.

I've attended a birthday party of a t5 year old man months ago, I surely ate cake at that time. Cake is a kind of a dessert for celebration, it doesn't have a limitation of age group. After all, happiness is the most important thing we're concerned when we celebrate a birthday, with cake or without cake.

not in my vocabulary... cake can be for all ages... depends on the type of cake. could be fun cakes for kids and sophistacated ones for adults. but i have yet to meet a person who doesn't like cakes. a cake is a nice gift. it's also safe. you'll be assured that even if the person you gave it to won't be able to eat the cake, someone else in his/her household will surely love it. :) when choosing a cake for your friend, bear in mind what your friend likes and choose a cake based on it. whether your friend likes fruits or coffee or chocolate or nuts or cheese, or nothing too sweet etc. cakes have a wide selection now-adays and we can even have sugar-free ones.

I don't know whether it's suitable in your country, but in my country, giving cake to olders as a gift while he's treating everyone for lunch/dinner is very common.

i dont agree. i love cakes and i make it a point that even i dont have party i still need to have a cake. it will not be a birthday without cake. even if it is a birthday or anniversary it is still cool to celebrate it with a cake. so it is okay if a friend who is 50 years of age or more to have a cake. happy birthday to your friend

I don't think cake has the age limit. To everyone if he or she likes cake, you can give cake as a birthday gift. Persoanlly, I found many elderly people love cake and also are happy to get cake as gift. The important is to know their tastes. Blossom

No, for me cakes are for all ages..and besides its the thought that counts. So its not really about the cake but about you remembering the person on his/her birthday.

Oooo no ! Whats a birthday without a cake. We celebrate my mother in laws 94th birthday with cake and a party. It is the feeling of being loved and wanted that important and takeing a gift and a cake will make him very happy. You are as young as you feel or make him feel. So go ahead and surprise him with a cake and gift and make him feel young once again. Oh, and wish him a Happy Birthday from us too.

If the celebrant won't like it, then I'm sure most of the guests, if any would love some cake. Or if there aren't any guests, they could share it to their neighbors the next day. I think most people would appreciate anything given to them as long as they know it was heartily given to them. I hope your recipient won't be such a cranky old person who doesn't know how to appreciate.

actually, i think that cake can be used for both occasions, might even any occassion, as much as children like cakes, no one gifts a cake to a child, or have you ever seen one often? cakes are only supplied to the birthday by parents and that is why giving cakes to elder people is no big deal, everyone likes cake!!! It is a delicacy, a desert, a cake is everything a person with a sweet-tooth could ask for... Happy-Mylotting

It probably depends on the person. Some older people don't like making a fuss over their birthday, or just don't want to eat something unhealthy. Other people would expect a cake and some presents. Personally, I will always want a cake for my birthday. It's a tradition for me... I'd be really sad if I didn't have a cake (even if I don't eat much of it). I think it's a good idea to get cake. If he/she doesn't like it, he/she doesn't have to eat it. It's the thought that counts.

Cake is for everyone. No matter children or elder. Perhaps because of children like the sweet foods that's why people often thinking that cake is for children. But of course it's not true. We can give cake for anybody no matter how old of them. Maybe the different point in the cake size, but it depends on how many people you celebrate the birthday with. Have a nice day and good luck.
