it is such a job to find a good doctor in my small towm. i understand that not too many of them want to come to a small town when they can go to bigger places & make the big bucks. i think they make pretty big bucks here myself. i am so outdone w/trying to find a good doctor that is local where i don't have to go over a 100 miles round trip to see one. anyone else have that problem in their town??

It is definitely difficult. Doctors think that they have invested so much money to become a dr so, why wasting time in a small town. They think that they will make good money and more facilities will be available to them if they live in big houses in big towns. I hate this tendency, I mean there are humans every where be it a small city or a big city but I didn't see any doctor who is living in a small city on his decision. They are all livign there because Govt has asked them to!

But even if the Govt send them to the small villages or town, still they would be looking to go to their own private clinic to do their own practice in big town. I can hardly see them in small towns. Once I visited on village hospital and I came to know that the doctor only comes there to make attendence for an hour and then he used to go tto his private clinic!

Hi antiquelady, Yes everyone needs doctor all the time in life and as age increase the need for good doctors increase. But it is nearly impossible for anyone in small villages or towns to find a very good doctor because 1) good things or services cost a lot more and it is not possible to get that money in small places. 2) The doctors in small places have limited exposures to the patients so their skill are not that good. You must realise that doctors too need lots and lots of patients to be very good and if you are in a small town and say a doctor gets only 2 or 3 high quality surgeries a month wont be able to match in experience and knowledge to the one in big cities like new Delhi which has population of over 16 million and he would be doing 3 or 4 surgeries a month. 3) it is all over the world that people especially in villages and small towns dont want to pay much. In India if you are in small town and charge 100 rs ( 2$) as their consultation people start calling them robbers while same people would come to delhi and pay 1000rs ( 20$) for the consultation. I dont say doctors should not go to small towns but they have family too and most people would go to places where they can earn good as they have to pay for everything including electricity or food nearly same as another salaried employee in any other field 4) They would want to get real good education for their children and unfortunately best colleges and schools are in big cities. 5) in case they need medical treatment in emergency, they wont get in villages and probably die or get worse, since he is the only one looking for other people heart attacks, who would looks after if he gets one. 6) It is duty of government to provide good medical treatment for their subjects and they can open good hospitals and then hire good doctors from cities who would come their say twice a week and treat the people. Govt would pay them and they can treat the patients free of cost.

Thanks for the best response and sorry i wrote so much in a response by someone else as i know how bad rural doctors condition is here and govt pays them much less than those it post in cities and they have to work in conditions where hospital has no electricity for hours and dont even have proper sitting arragements and do u think any doctor would work there and then govt always tell them you dont work even when they are 24X7 on call duty and 9 to 4 daily 6 days a week and many a times 7 days a week in hospital.

I think we have an adequate number of doctors here, but I have not been someone who needed to find a new one. I count my town as small, but it may seem large to you. There are around 14,000 people in town.

That is awful ,we have the health service in England and there has to be a doctors surgery for everyone in a certain area.We have five doctors at our surgery and it is just up the road from me.It is dentists people have trouble finding.NHS dentists that is.I do travel six miles to my dentist but I have been going to the same one for twenty five years ,not everyone is as lucky as us,It you pay a private dentist it would be terrible,we do have to pay some of the cost. But to have to travel around a hundred miles for a doctor how bad is that.if you are ill the last thing you need is to go out,we even have a call out service where the doctor will visit you at home, only if you are really ill.or you can ring up the surgery and discuss your problems over the phone.Normally they will leave your medicine up the surgery as they dispense as well.As our nearest chemist is over six miles away.My heart goes out to you the biggest superpower in the world and they cannot even make sure you can get to a doctor,or recieve emergency health care.Emmigrate come over here ,I will look after you.xxxx

thanks suzzy, u made me laugh when u told me to emmigrate, that's so sweet of you. sounds like y'all have a pretty good setup. we have doctors here but they leave alot to be desired. i was suppose to have a heart cath back last sept. & i put it off because my dad was sick & he did pass away the day i was suppose to have it. i was leary about having it of course & the dr. that told me i needed it was 60 miles away & wanted to send me to nashville, tn. to have it which is a 3 hr. drive from here. now isn't that a crock. i would have to depend on my sons carrying me, missing work etc i'm so put out & don't know what to do. i normally don't grunt online & i apologize for doing it to you. u are too easy to talk to suzzy, thanks for that & have a great weekend.

Heyya jo! I go to Knoxville for important medical issues. That is about a 90 mile round trip for me. The reasons why are not so much the lack of..it's the quality of. I have had a couple of issues..lol...with my city's doctors. One being my daughter having a sinus infection and was treated for everything else until it became so strong I whizzed her to Children's hospital one night because of an extremely high temp that come back every month. A doctor here seen her that day and said it was just a virus..no biggy..that night..temp 103.5..I took her and not only did she have an infection but she was dehydrated as well from the temp. She had been treated by low doses of antibiotic which just made the infection stronger. It was truely a case of neglect by the doctor here. Yes..we do have that problem.

i certainly know what u mean by quality, jenn, we don't have that here either, i don't drive out of town much & have to depend on the boys to take me which i don't like to do. don't really like to have to depend on anybody to do anything for me. the dr. that wanted me to have the heart cath was in jackson which is 60 miles away but he wanted me to have it done in nashville which is 3 hrs. away. this didn't make a whole lot of sense to me since they do them in jackson all the time. don't know what i'm going to do. having some problems i think are heart related. thanks for your response. have a good weekend.i'm glad u took your daughter on to knoxville. no telling what might have happened if u hadn't. smart girl. we gotta' look after our youguns'.

I'm thinking Nashville might be a better place for the heart thing. I know someone that went to Nashville for laser eye surgery once. Just to be comfortable. It may be to that the doctors are affiliated. I hate to hear your having problems! I know you don't like to depend on anyone but sometimes we need help.

doctor is needed for every person, so i think it should available in small town. even in my remote village doctor will come periodically to check basic health like tooth, dengue, cholera, wound ans similar.

we have doctors here, it's not that we don't have them it's just the ones we have are not all that good in my opinion. i guess living in a small town like i do u hear too much about them & it makes you leary to go to them. thanks for your response & gave a great day.
