Simply that China is a sovereign nation like any other. Why is that when another nation, not a crony of the US or GB, does an act often done by the US or its allies, it is immediately critizised and scrutinized? A recent example is the Somalis being labeled "pirates" for simply protecting and defending their high seas jurisdiction against drifters - actions authorized by International laws, and actions often taken by the US and others against violators! Please see: http://www.un.org/Depts/los/convention_agreements/texts/unclos/part2.htm http://www.earthtrust.org/dnpaper/intllaw.html I believe that it is about time that we stop this hypocrisy and learn to recognize the rights of others to be free to do as pleased within the bounds of International laws! No one is going to remain naive for long!

Are you kidding me? These pirates weren't protecting anything and I'd challange you to name one ship that would be considered to be a drifter. They were boarding commercial and privately owned ships that should have been accorded safe passage through international waters and demanding that a ransome be paid in order for the ships and hostages to be released. Since when is extortion sanctioned by the U.N.?

Spalladino, if you objectively read the links I provided with my response, then you would not be demanding evidence to back my response. You see, it is no secret that Somali "piracy" began as an honest effort by Somalis to deter illegal fishing and dumping by "developed nations." The situation is Somali coast, while on one hand is in fact Somalis effort to protect and defend their environment, on the other hand, is outright disrespect for the Somalis by so called developed nations! Lest I forget - US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was not merely joking when she spoke of 17th century crime and 21st century solutions! The woman is knowledgeable, and obviously sees the irony in this "Somali piracy." The actions of the Somalis are in accordance with both the International Protective and Percautionary princples! I, too, believe the Somalis and all coastal nations should continue to protect and defend their territories against drifters illegally fishing, dumpimg and polluting their regions! I also think that Luo Barack Hussein Obama should be held liable for the murder of those Somalis killed on Easter Sunday 2009! Spalladino, you are also welcome to further continue this topic in details by following the link to "Piracy at High Seas" - http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/1979364.aspx

China has always been fond of staging parades to display it's military might. They believe it boosts the morale of the people and it probably does. There was a military dress parade in Tian'anmen Square in October in celebration of the 60th anniversary of the People's Republic of China so I don't believe they're trying to prove anything with this one. They're just doing what they traditionally do.

I think that is just a parade, nothing more. The countries that China wants them to know about her military power, they don't need the parade, they already know. Today there ara satellites that can see if the soldier is drinkin orange juice or water. Obviously the don't need the parade.

China is one of the big countries in the world. Not something special that China to show military force. Perhaps China's military parade is barganing power to North Korea nuclear problem. As we know, the nuclear issue in North Korea did not have solution. United States and many other countries concerned about nuclear issues in Nort Korea as a threat to world peace. Meanwhile, China has interest with North Korea. However, I hope the military parade was not a provocation.
