I've heard my mum talk about this movie, she says it is very confusing at first, but if you watch it more than once, you start to understand that it has something to do with the theory of evolution. Who stars in this movie and what is it all about? If it's mind-numbing, I don't know if I want to watch it.

Much as I like the movie--and I agree with the previous poster that it is one of the greatest films of all time--I can tell you honestly that if you are looking for action, you will have a very hard time with this film. It isn't mind-numbing in the literal sense because it actually encourages you to think, but in the ordinary sense of the word, yeah, I think most people would consider it mind-numbing lol. When I was a kid I tried watching the movie a few times and always ended up falling asleep. 2010 is a more "Hollywood" type of movie with a little more surface action. And I really like that movie, too, although it certainly isn't one of the greats. But you'd have to see 2001 first. As for the evolution thing...when you say you've been told it has something to do with "the theory of evolution," that brings to mind Darwin and all that. And Darwin's pretty much out the window of this movie. Kubrick's theory of evolution is much different.
