Substitution rule in IPL?

Will that be interesting? I mean every team has 26 players in their team and they used to play only 14 matches, that means that many player can't even get a chance to play matches. I think substitution rule will give a great impact on IPL. My idea is to make 2 substitution in each innings and they have to declare the bench of players for substitution in begining! How would it be ?

pal, i like that, thanks. there is no much politics in our small town when it comes to your kids playing ball i know what unfairness is.it may be that way in the big sports field to, i don't know/ alot of times here it wasn't who was the best it was who your parents nwere. i was never in the in crowd & thanfully my kids were pretty good players but believe i didn't mind jumping in when i thought it was needed. lol. have a good weekend.

Lady, It is nothing like you are talking about. The platform is much bigger than what you are talking about. I mean there are 8 teams at national level and at a time only 11 players can play in a game from each team. Thre is 26 players pool, alright but all of them gets a salary, whether they play or not. So, there is no unfairness in it. Aprt from it that oly 11 best player should play in a game as all teams need to win their matches to head to a final where the winner get 6 million dollars, it is a big amount to win. My concern is that by using substituion, more players can get a chance to win!

I think it is quiet good to give all the players a chance to play at least once. But it is not good enough because there are many international players also who have great reputation whom some teams cannot afford to keep out because their franchise has paid a lot on them. Take an example Chennai Super Kings Franchise is in great loss after losing Flintoff after few matches due to some injury.

The question is that if flintoff would have been carrying on the same form which he has in IPL2, could Dhoni afford to make him play in every matches! I doubt it because at the end, they want the matches to be won by their team. I don't think they will play someone only because they have paid more money to them but performance is the key!

yes and that was the reason why they were loosing the game. I mean one bowler giving 50 runs in a T20 match means that he is making a great negative impact on the team's performance. Hope that Oram will be performing well now on!

I think this will complicate things even more. See many of the 26 players are not available for whole of the tournament anyway. Then there are restrictions like there must be 7 Indian players in the playing 11 and 4 of the playing 11 should be below 23 years. I think these rules are enough.

If they are sitting out then that means that somehow they are lesser then those who are playing and I won't mind seeing the better ones forever!

Whatever you are saying is correct but still we havn't seen players like Stephan Fleming, Makhaya ntini or Paul Collingwood, only because we have a rule of playig 4 os players in a team at a time. So, if there will be a rule of substitution these players can get a chance, same thing apply for under 23 also!

You must be using your email notification link to answer this discussion. Yes, it is related to cricket and IPL stands for Indina Premier League. It is just like English Premire League. Here top 8 teams from India used to play in the league.

i do not feel that is such a good idea. when this rule was introduced in one day cricket it received a lot of flak because the captain winning the toss would have the advantage as he would be able to choose to bat or bowl according to the substitute players he has picked.anyways cricket is a game of 11 players not 12 or thirteen so i do not like the idea.

That is why I say that some inovation is required in it. I mean if one team gets to replace two players, either batsman or bowler in each innings after toss, then it will be a good thing. I have given that advise on Iplt20.com. Let's see what happens next!

Good idea, i feel bad when two internantional players are sitting on the bench. This will be great, but their is problem when you get a bowler in after substitution he will not be able to bowl 4 overs. When this rule was in ODI as super sub there was a with that rule, it was to choose single player before toss that was a difficult decision to make without knowing that what you would do after toss. 2 substitution make a better sense even you are to choose before toss.

That is why I am saying that there will be a pool of players from which they can choose the players. Say we are allowed to substitute 2 players in each innings. It is a little complicated though. We can also try what people do in baseball too!

Its a good suggestion but I think two players per innings would be too much. Let us keep it one player in each inning. I thing this is going to be a good one. We will all enjoy it a lot. Lets propose it to Lalit Modi and get going.

Is there any way we can contact mr. Modi? I mean someone has to give this idea into his ear isn' it?

They did experimented with it in one dayers, but didn't worked. And its bit complicated too as they can substitute a bowler with a bats man after his spell is over. Ya may be it will add more interest to game.. and more players get chance to play. Can't say how it would be, as in one dayers when they introduced didn't changed anything, just brought bit confusion about how it really works.

It is a little bit complecated but what they can do is having a pool of 15 players with 2 xtra batsman and 2 extra bowlers and the substitution may be allowed either start of the match(after the toss) and in the middle(lunch time). After all T20 is an experiments and all 26 players may get a chance of playing a game, isn't it?
