My cat wasn't as conspicuous but he had extra dew claws on his front feet, it made him look like he had big feet. and yeah things like that do tend to happen especially with incest which is sadly common with cats. they love to breed lol

Those Polydactol cats have lots of names, probably most famously, "Hemingway" cats because he had them, and his museaum keeps a limited number of breeding polys in his honor (decended from the orginals.) I knew a lady who called them "toedie" cats. There seems to be a colony of poly ferals around Bastrop Texas, it also seems to be a bit more common around the Boston area - and Key West, Florida, but those cats do have a history there.

Awwwww, that's nice of you to adopt him (or rather that he adopted YOU) I've never seen an extra foot growing, but that happens in nature sometimes. I remember we had a calf on the farm once that was born with an extra leg. That was real strange! As far as the extra toes go, my one really ancient cat (around 18 or 19 years old) was a rescued cat. She has extra toes on all of her paws. I've always called it 'mitten-toed', I've never heard them called anything else. Thumbs is a great name for a cat like that. I've seen quite a few cats over the years with extra toes on the front feet, but Sweetie's the only one I've seen where all 4 paws are mittened (I have no clue if that is unusual or not)

Yes I have seen something like this before. I think the cats like that are cute. Polydactyly, or extra digits, is a common trait among cats, particularly it seems, among Celtic cats and cats on part of America's Eastern coast and South West Britain. This distribution may well be linked. Except for Twisty Cats, polydactyly is not a product of bad breeding. It is simply a naturally occurring genetic variation and, as noted later on, polydactyly is found in fossil reptiles - meaning that five digits might be the abnormal form! Only one form of polydactyly is known to be harmful.

Polys are great! I rescued one that had extra toes on all paws. He had been injured and had a broken pelvis and hip. He was about 5 months old. I took him to the vets where I worked and we was nursed him back to health and he was adopted by some of our clients who named him BJ andgave him a great home. He never walked the same again. He had a passion for teasing thier dogs by walking on the top of the fence and he fell several times only to be rescued in time, until finally he fell when and was killed by the dogs he had teased so much.
