A local photographer has notecards featuring some of her photographs on consignment at the store I work with. She's really doing quite well with the whole thing--she comes in about once or twice a month, and I usually end up paying her anywhere from $20-$40 for the notecards she's sold since the last time she was in.
I've been playing around with my new digital camera a lot lately, and I've got a lot of images that have turned out really, really well. I'm frequently asked if we carry postcards featuring local landmarks, but we've never had them as far as I know.
So I've been thinking about taking some of my photos and getting them printed on postcards, then selling them on consignment at my store. I discussed it briefly with the Powers That Be, and they're totally for it. I've picked out a few images I want to use, and I think I may want to have them printed by Vista Print. Their prices seem very reasonable, especially when compared to Zazzle (Vista Print's postcards cost nearly 90% less than Zazzle's do).
I'm just curious if anyone has had any experience with Vista Print, since I haven't heard much about them. I know the GPT sites like to pimp their free business card offer, but that's about it. I really like the fact that their prices are so low, but if the quality's horrible, there's no point in purchasing from them. I also wouldn't mind hearing about other places that will print standard-sized post cards, if you know of any.
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

It is the numbers game in printing. VistaPrint made a name for themselves by crossing that traditional barrier and doing small print runs using the latest technology. I've used them and they are good for what they do.
So I would pull out your local Yellow Pages and bounce your idea off a few printers and see what the can produce.
If you can do all the 'print-ready' work yourself and get it to PDF-X format (the hard part) you may be pleasently surprised at the prices.

You know, it definitely can't hurt. And buying locally would eliminate a lot of the wait time, because I wouldn't have to wait for the completed products to come in the mail. ^_^
I don't know why I didn't think of this myself, but I really appreciate the suggestion. I'll look into this option first, then see about Vista Print if I can't find anyone local who can do it for me. Thanks!

I'm glad to hear that you were happy with the business cards you received. I've played around with their design process, and they do give a very nice preview of the postcard with my photos uploaded, but seeing it on screen isn't quite the same as actually holding them and seeing the quality myself.
Oh, well. I will probably do as the person who responded after you suggested and contact some local companies, then go with Vista Print if I can't find anyone who can beat their prices locally. I can order 100 postcards for free, so it will only cost me $6.49 to have them shipped.
Thanks for sharing your experience with me. I really appreciate it!
