Got designation but no Appraisal

Hi, I am working somewhere in IT sector only, I have been promoted to TL though I am less experienced then people working under me, but my Director saw my capability and promoted me to TL. The problem is that there is still no appraisal because of recession every company is taking advantage by not giving appraisals, but it makes me feel frustrated sometimes coz I have been working very hard really committed to my work and still not rewarded with appraisal. I only want appraisal coz if I'll step outside looking for a change I'll be ashamed to show my salary as it's not a TL package. Although i had a discussion with my director, he said there will be an appraisal but he don't know when. what shall i do?
