Cats and Full Moons

My cats go berserk when its a full moon. Actually, they start getting weird about a week beforehand. They start bugging us more day and night. They start running us over or meowling day or night. My older cat (who is 11) starts to play vigorously and chase her 16 month old brother more frequently and she starts to climb on things (including tables which she knows is a no-no) My youngest starts to bug us at night with his meowling and scratching and they both keep us up all hours of the night. I have heard of stories where the cats start ripping around the house breaking things, climbing curtains and generally just being bad during (or immediately previous to) a full moon. Have you ever found this with your cats?

well being a cat person I have not notice anything strange from them but they are always being crazy but a full moon dose cause animals an people to act a little differently

That's what I was thinking too. I personally notice that all creatures can either act strange or just be normal during a full moon. It can go either way. Thank you for your response :))

mine usually freak out over rain, the moon seems to have no effect. i think maybe the air pressure change pops their ears before storms, and that's why. they don't appear very comfortable.

Rain affects your cats, but the moon doesn't. In our case, my cats will actually fall asleep to the rain and sleep right soundly through the thunder. Animals are very different and very strange creatures, but then again, they probably think the same of us...LOL Thanks for your response.

that sounds like some of my cats all the time! I have a 4 yr old cat who cleaned all the magnates off the fridges because all the other cats would hid from him when he wanted to play - this is now our boy with a "trick" of jumping in our arms.

yep, he practiced jumping to take the magnates off the fridges, then moved on to greeting us with an armful of cat! What a surprise the first time!

My animals are all more restless at the full moon, cats are night animals and the additional light much upset them. None of mine have such extreme reaction as yours do.

Thank you for your response. Cats are nocturnal animals, but I have seen us be up all night with the lights on and they sleep right through it, so moonlight coming in shouldnt really bug them. That and the fact that where we are there is no light coming in the windows of our room and they sleep in our room. I have heard of an apparent magnetic shift that changes tides, people and animals. Just a thought. It may affect some more than others.
