There are a couple of advise at work.
Do not ever go against your boss's will if he decided on something; even you knew it was a wrong decision. Don't get yourself in this position. Because he might think that you go against him in person.
Do not make enemy with the person you boss trust the most. He/she might back stab at you while you are unaware.
Finish what you suppose to do at work. Done you assignment on time. Finish your work, and leave the place. Do not try to make entangle with or too much involve with the people at your work. Unless he/she can be a trusted friend of yours.

You seems to have a not so good experience with you co-workers huh.
I think your piece of advice could be more applicable to a secretary. If I am a personal secretary or an executive assistant, well of course,i will NEVER go against the will of my boss, whatever the reason is. Another thing, bosses requires their secretary's to be his ever loyal follower, the one he can rely on things he is not familiar of, and the one that boosts up his confidence. most secretary's hardly find friends in the office other than his boss for she is known to be the "PRO-boss" in the office.
