Have you ever changed your lifestyle?

Maybe you decided to eat more healthily by cutting out the fat, cholesterol or carbohydrates from your diet. Do you now avoid junk food and eat more fibre, fruits and vegetables? Did you decide to stop eating meat or animal by-products and become vegetarian or vegan? Has a change in jobs, or an increased workload, forced you to rely on faster food preparation and a less healthy diet? Perhaps you decided to be more physically active? Do you exercise through sport, dance, by jogging or walking? Maybe you are less active nowadays because of age, injury or ailment? Have you decided to take the plunge and get married, have children or purchase a pet? Maybe you are considering divorce or swinging? Have your sons and/or daughter moved out or the beloved family pet has passed away? Maybe you changed professions or decided/was forced to retire? Perhaps you decided to move to a nation with a different language and culture? Have you changed to an urban, suburban or rural environment? Maybe you have moved into a neighborhood with single family homes or are now in an apartment/condominium?
Have you conducted a change in your lifestyle? What was your motivation for change?

Yes I have! I changed my diet recently and I'm already feeling much better about it! I used to get up every morning and have a bowl of cocoa puffs .. and I decided that wasn't really that healthy.. after all.. I liked it.. if it's good for you.. you aren't suppose to like it.. ya know? So yesterday for breakfast I had fruit loops instead!
And I thought I would try a slim fast for lunch.. And ya know what? with a scoop of ice cream and some chocolate sprinkles on top.. those things ain't half bad!
hmmmm.... I think that's all I've changed from the things that ya listed.. the last time I moved was when we had that big tornado that came through and lifted the trailer up and moved us into a field outside of town.. it was awesome! we woke up and found we NOW owned a cow and several pieces of lawn furniture!
I don't know when we will move again.. I haven't seen the weather channel in a while.. but I hope it's somewhere nice like this!
ya know, they said we would never get out of that trailer park! were they wrong or what?!
P.S. we named the cow Ethel!

I told ya that ain't yer cow! it were a gift! from God himself!
why don't ya get the huntin' dog to babysit the younguns like ya used to do? heck! the dog ain't as bad as uncle Wilma! you used to get her to babysit em and it would get nervous with the younguns would cry and think he was back in the old rodeo clown days and she would catch herself on fire and roll in the yard!
ya wanna borry wut?
I told ya to stop using them skool werds.. no one can understood you!

Within the past three years, I can say I've made a couple of very significant changes.
I got married and bought my first house, for one thing. I started feeding my dogs raw meat and bones because they are carnivores and that is what they were born to eat. After doing all of that research for them, I started doing research on what was best for humans. I have recently cut out almost all dairy and grains and primarily eat grassfed, organic meats and organic fruits and veggies. I have greatly reduced my purchase of processed foods - almost to the point that clipping coupons has become pointless.
I walk the dogs every single day (unless it is pouring down rain), which I never did with other dogs I've had growing up. And I have really gotten into house plants and gardening, which is something I NEVER thought I'd be interested in!

Those are some significant changes in lifestyle. So many major changes in such a short period of time. I guess that it can be hard to stop once you get going. A change in diet, or in the way we purchase our food, can take a strong will. It's not always easy to convince yourself to pay more for a similar item because it has been raised differently. I know that some organic farmers are struggling because of the recession. Many have been forced to drop their organic methods because people are less willing to pay more during these difficult economic times and they need to save their businesses. Walking the dog(s) is great exercise for both of you. Walks help the dog combat boredom and they are a great way to bond. It's amazing how people change or transform over time. Gardening is a great way to get your organic fruits and vegetables too. You won't find a more local source that will help the environment any more than that. Cheers.

It's good that you support your local farmers. It's not only good for the environment, but it is also good for the sovereignty of the community/nation. Farming is a good honest living and independent farmers need our support. Some vegetables can be grown in partial shade, but nothing can be done about the deer. I guess it's a good thing that those deer don't like to eat flowers.

Unfortunately, my gardening is all flowering plants and not fruits and vegetables. Where I live we have SO many deer, that I can't plant anything without them eating it! I also don't have a sunny spot to plant veggies in unless I planted them right in the front of my house next to the front door. And deer exclusion fencing wouldn't look too attractive right there. LOL That is why I had to join a CSA. It keeps the cost of organic fruits and veggies lower than if I were to buy them all at Whole Foods, and it supports local farmers, which I am happy to support. My grandfather was a farmer, and it was his life's passion.

I am always changing in my lifestyle.
Been married, been divorced, lived all over the place, worked as a carpenter, worked as a cleaning lady, worked as a postwomen, worked as a pub owner, worked as a factory worker, machine operator. Worked on the internet. Changed my way of living. From very healthy to very easy going. Did not want a relationship and have one for two years now. Did not want a cat and have one anyway. My life is too busy! I just want to have peace and relax!
Take care, have a nice weekend!

Hi bayernfan, I have seen a lot of changes in my lifestyle in the past sixteen years. At that time the company I worked for went out of business and at the age of 53 I returned to school. In 1995 my wife passed away suddenly and with three grown sons, all living away from home, I suddenly found myself living alone for the first time in many years. Since than I have retired from my second job and remarried. My health is good and I'm still enjoying life, my three sons have married and I now have two granddaughters. Blessings.

Sometimes adversity forces us to change. It's how we choose to face difficulties that is important. While it is not always easy, or possible, to replace what we've lost, you should be commended for fighting through the traumatic experiences and making the best of the circumstances. It sounds like you have been rewarded for your perseverance. Cheers.

My life is quite dispirited now.I am going to graduate from the college and I don't have a job to do.I spend my whole day in front of the internet to type discussions on mylot.I watch boring tv soaps till the midnight.I really want to change my lifestyle.I find my health is getting bad day by day as I don't have any outside activity.I don't take any exercise.I will miss my lunch as I get up too late.I really want to change, but I don't have the motivation for change.I want to be a more healthy girl, living in a routine life, taking exercise everyday, having breadfast every morning, etc.I tried to force myself to change, but I gave up very soon.I don't know what I can do.Maybe,I should go to bed right now cause it is almost 3 am now.Good night! My friend!

Yes. I have changed my lifestyle a lot. I was something different in high school and I'm someone completely different now. And I'm very much proud of myself because this new me is a much better person in many aspects. The reason that made me change was that no matter how you are , there are always 2 groups of people. One how like you the way you are and the one who like the way you look and act. What is amazing is that the people who like you the way you are remain the same even after you have changed your viewpoint of life. But the the group changes and you get to see more people liking you and this and that, if you know what I mean.

I understand what you are saying. Different people will connect with you in varying degrees. Some, only because of the activities that you partake in or perhaps because of a common interest in specific items. Other may enjoy your company, be interested in your ideas, find your sense of humor amusing our like your personality. Transitioning between stages in life can force changes and expose the strengths, or weaknesses, in relationships. As time goes by, relationships get tested and only the strongest connections survive. Responsibilities change and so do commitments to our time. People grow apart and friends come and go. Thanks for sharing.

Basically I cut down on instant noodle. Instant noodle is very tasty and quick way to prepare a meal, but it is worse than any fast food.
All the other aspects of life remains the same, still walk a lot everyday, more than 10,000 and nearly to 20,000 steps a day.
Still eat a variety of food, more Chinese food than Western meal. Just cut down on instant noodle to once in 2 or 3 months. Hate to have all the chemicals inside my body.

It can be difficult to give up the foods that aren't good for our health/body, especially when they save time and taste so good. Once you get into the routine of cooking from scratch, it doesn't really take that much longer. It is good to hear that you are doing something to better your health. There certainly isn't anything wrong with indulging yourself occasionally. Cheers.

Well changing my habit of eating isnt going to happen for a while, the way i htink is while your young enjoy what you can. I have decided that i am going to become more phisicly active, i am going to start jogging in the afternoons now that is starting to be sunny here. My motivation was my godmother who does this too everyday.

Others setting a good example can be the perfect motivation. It's also nice to have somebody else that you can enjoy an activity with or talk to about. You don't have to watch what you eat as closely if you are willing to do the extra work to burn the calories off. Some foods will be better at providing you with the energy that you need to do the exercise though. Good luck Absinto.

I think my immigration to the Uk is a big lifestyle change in my life.
It reflects in the the languange I use everyday, also includes my food choices, dressing style and the way to deal with people.
Do as Roman do when you are in Roman.
I do as the British do. Haaaaaaaa...
Best regards.

There might not be any bigger lifestyle change than migrating to another nation. Especially when a different language is involved. The actual saying goes: When in Rome, do as the Romans do. It's good advice. Welcome to myLot sblossom. Thanks for sharing.

I have changed a big part of my life by being more physically active, by walking, and eating as healthy as I can. I had lost 55 pounds within the last year and feel great. My motivation for change was the way I felt about myself and my life. I did not feel very goog about myself and I felt lazy. I did not like that feeling, so I decided to do something about it.

Good for you mmookie8. Losing 55 pounds is a wonderful achievement. Exercise has some great side-effects. Added strength, loss of weight, increased energy, better mood, improved posture and more. If you don't do it, then who's going to do it for you? Congratulations and welcome to myLot.

There are two major changes that I have done this year.
1. Exercise + Eating Right
2. I quit my job
I've done both solely for health reasons. I was diagnosed of cancer last year... had my surgery months after my doctors told me about it... And now, I'm being very positive about the health events. Last March, my doctors gave me the go signal to go to the gym, which is really good. With that, I also tweaked my meal plans. I have been sleeping better. My moods are better. I think I'm getting stronger, so I should be on track.
Resigning from work was a tough decision to make, but since I felt that I was no longer happy with what I was doing, it was time to go. I was also getting way a lot of stress from my old job and my doctors and parents were not too happy about it.
When I am almost a hundred percent A-OK, I will eventually find a new job. And everything is going to be new for me... more like a new life :)

Just this year, i made few changes in my lifestyle. Like now i can appreciate the taste of vegetables dishes unlike past years i am more into yummy taste of foods that i dont care whether it would be good for my health or not but now i am aware and conscious of foods that take. When it comes to my personal things, i can say that i am careless...like you can see my undies on the floor, papers and pens everywhere and i lost my jewelries several times so now i have no more gold attached in my body. But now i myself notice that this weakness slowly gone and i am happy for this changes. Before i was more on a modest style and then little by little the way i look and i pay more attention on how to take care of myself in general. Lately, i learned to save pennies for myself and for my kids without letting anyone know. I should respect, take care and love myself first so i can give or share these to people around me especially my kids.

Yes i had once. IT was a few months ago. I find that i was hating more and more who i was back then. Who i was back then was someone very insecure. Someone who didn't have enough "omph" in her to be a better person, make the best of things..She was someone people would look at and say she's pathetic. I loathed myself back then. I don't know what caused the changed in me, but i did..I worked hard, i trained myself not to be soo weak and insecure that evryone had their flaws and i needed to accept that. I think i am a whole lot better now, and i'm glad that whatever it was that made me want to change, i'm glad that it happened. =]
