Do you use myLot as a replacement for other social networking sites?

Do you use myLot exclusively, or are you an active member on other social networking sites as well? Do you find that you are using other social networking sites, such as Facebook or MySpace, less now that you are a member of myLot? Maybe you like myLot for forum discussion but also enjoy other options for their unique content and style, such as Flickr for photo/video related networking or Twitter for micro-blogging? What's your view of myLot's place within the social networking scene? How does myLot fit into your routine?

I am aware of the other sites you mention but I do not use them. I am only here on myLot. I think online is just the same as offline. I am usually only in one place at a time offline too getting to know people better there rather than superficially in several places. It take time to cultivate friendships and I find it more rewarding in many ways by just being in one place the whole time and myLot gets my time. That's where I have made my nest

Let's put it this way - I prefer to be a regular in the same coffee bar rather than one day in one and another day in a different one and that's how I am online too. Before the msn chatrooms closed here in Italy I used to be a chatter and even then I stayed in the same room rather than having several open at the same time. I can multitask but I can't hold simultaneous conversations and follow them the way they deserve to be followed so I stick to one place at a time and bump into the same friends in different rooms (discussions ).

I get it. There was a sitcom based on that notion...Cheers. The opening song was all about the sentiments that you have described. I understand the difficulty of trying to concentrate on the task at hand when your attention is divided. You have to be careful not to make mistakes or insult anyone. It can be considered rude by some if you don't give them your complete attention. Discussions in chat rooms move very fast. I am very used to multitasking and have even engaged in discussions in multiple chat rooms at once. That won't be everyone's cup of tea.

Strong relationships do take time to form. You can have several groups of friends or other friends for the different activities that you do offline as well. Having several groups of friends doesn't mean that all your relationships are superficial either. You only need good time management skills when you have lots of friends. Visiting several groups of friends simultaneously is more difficult to do offline due to the nature of interaction. When you are online, people are more understanding of long pauses or breaks. It's also possible to be in several virtual places at once.

I use mylot as a replacement for real friends... these are much easier to take care of.. you visit when YOU want to see them and there is none of that "borrowing" stuff that ya have with REAL friends! OH! and internet friends never come over uninvited with THEIR friends and stay for what seems like Foreverrr when your favorite movie is on TV and ya just wanna sit there in your underwear and watch it uninterrupted ... yes sir! this is the only way to have friends!

This is so funny! I agree with this 100%. I don't have many of the problems you mentioned but I really do enjoy mylot because of the fact that you can come here any time you want to. Mylot friends are so good to help you with problems, aren't they? This is such a good way to make money, even if it's not much. I can come here in my pajamas even! Have a good night and happy mylotting! Kathy.

Well, there are certainly plenty of incentives to stick to myLot and spend more time here. It can be hard to stay away once you get involved. Engaging in interesting discussions and interacting with quality people are good reasons. You definitely don't want to ignore your responsibilities for myLot or for anything else for that matter. Cheers.

I think that myLot is a great place to interact with others too. I don't think that I would spend much time here if I didn't find that to be the case. However, I am a member on several other forums as well. MyLot is a good well rounded site, but for in depth discussions on certain topics, or local issues, I have greater success elsewhere. A large gathering of expertise on specific topics takes place where those people are most comfortable, and that isn't always on myLot. It certainly can be difficult to spread yourself around. Especially when time is limited. Life is like that. Thanks for sharing.

I'm not sure that mylot is quite the same as facebook, myspace or gather. I do have accounts there, but I'm not really interested in being there except to contact a few friends. I spend most of my time here, talking about things that interest me, and replying to people that start discussions that interest me. I did join gather yesterday because I found a friend from here that had left and wanted to contact her

They are all social networking sites, but that doesn't mean that they operate in a similar manner. Some aspects of individual sites may be the same, and they may even borrow specific features from one another, but different sites often employ unique methodology to attract and retain users/members. Sometimes social networking sites can overlap and replacing one with another is easy. Sometimes friends just decide to hang out elsewhere. This happens offline too. If a site is good at offering something that nobody else can provide, then it's hard to give up using the service. Thanks for sharing.

I actually host a board on another forum but it's soooo dry in there as far as topics. I try some games and different things to get people moving and it's just blah plus most of my friend have left that forum all togeather. I like mylot better for alot of aspects because it's usually got someeone online & it pays $$.

It isn't easy to operate or administer a forum. Having a successful forum isn't easy to attain either. Sometimes you may be able to attract enough people and things might seem to be going well. This is just a portion of the battle. Retaining membership and keeping peoples' interest is the hardest part. Once you have a successful site, you must contend with additional problems. The more popular the site, the more likely you are to encounter fraud, trolls, hackers, members trying to game the system, fights between users and a whole host of problems. In the end, peoples' lifestyles change, interests change, fads change and minds change. Sometimes it's not easy to tell why some people change their habits. Forums have to be incredibly flexible, innovative, up to date, trendy, fluid and they must walk a fine line to protect self interest while not offending users. Forums are like restaurants. Anyone can start one, few are really exceptional in quality, most struggle to break even and many go under. Cheers.

I am only on one other site and I use both of them exclusively. I like my lot better than other social networking sites because everyone is so much friendlier here than on other sites like my space and Facebook. I also like that myLot has a wide variety of topics to talk about.

I agree with you 100%. I don't see the amount (if any) of personal attacks here like other sites. I think the making money is just an added bonus. I also like that there are so many different things to talk about with everyone on here.

The membership on myLot, for the most part, is very courteous. In the least, treatment towards one another here is civil. I haven't seen the type of personal attacks here on myLot that have taken place on other boards. I think that this is a credit to both myLot and its membership. I think that the way that myLot approaches such behavior has a lot to do with it. Also, the fact that many members are here to earn money has something to do with this to. MyLot doesn't hesitate to delete posts or discussions. The way that the ratings system works keeps a lot of members in check too. Thanks for joining in on this discussion.

I love the internet too! It is a highly powerful tool. By far my favorite one. I don't think overindulging in the internet is sad and I don't apologize for doing it myself. I am a member of several sites as well. Sometimes I enjoy them for their similarities. It's easy to adjust to a different board if they use the same features as the other ones that I am a member of. It can make me feel more at home. I stick with all of them because of the differences. Otherwise, it would probably be easier to convince others to all go to one site. Cheers.

Yes I am also member of some social networking sites but I don't want to spend much time on them. They are just ok for keeping contact with my friends. I don't want to participate in any of the discussion there. Because they are never going to pay me for that. This is the biggest difference between mylot and other social networking site. Mylot pays and others don't. Why should I give my comments on some thing typing a long paragraph if it will not help me in either way. One of the reason why I love mylot is that we can have fun , learn new thing and get paid for doing that. Now I have lots of free time in my hand so I participate in the discussion almost the hole day.

I am a member of many social networking sites like orkut,facebook,etc......I used to spend a lot of time on orkut initially but since the day I came to know about mylot I spend a whole lot of time here......its pretty interesting here as you would always get an answer to all your queries.....it would be a very rare scenario to see any of your discussions going unanswered...and the best thing is you can make friends of your interest groups so you have full control over whom you want to make friends and whom not....there are lots of exiting things here like tasks, discussions etc.....waiting to get a task though.....plus the energy here is very vibrant as compared to other sites so yes i have definitely replaced it with other social networking sites......thanks

One's use of social networking sites can ebb and flow or come and go. I have discontinued membership on some sites before. I have used myLot as a replacement for others as well. I am a member on several social networking sites and I find using several sites to be complementary. The customizability and control of the myLot platform is quite unique. It certainly allows for an enriched experience and an enhanced interaction between members. Cheers.

I have a facebook I never use. I use myspace because I've had my Myspace account since 2004 and I have family, real life friends and freaky cool internet friends on myspace. I like myspace a lot because I have a online storage dump to put all of my silly pics at . I like Mylot also and I think I made a few cool freaky friends here recently, no family or real life friends here though.Sometimes I forget about myspace and spend more time here, especially if too many weirdos are pestering me or if it becomes boring. If too many weirdo people start pestering me here I'll probably start spending more time on myspace. I'm thinking about branching out on twitter and I'm currently working on a new blogspot blogger.SOmehow I have a bebo page that I don't remember signing up for, it just popped up when I got a AOL email account.I also have 2 youtube accounts I find hard to manage..If I only had more time to do these things it would totally be amazing!

Sometimes there just aren't enough hours in the day. Some forums have a very handy ignore function so that you don't have to worry about weirdos, pests or abusive people. The ignore feature is great to have because it removes the ability of others to destroy your experience on a site. There are so many options out there when it comes to social networking that it can be overwhelming or hard to choose. Some sites do an excellent job of specific tasks and can't be replaced. Others can do a great job of combining the best features together for people to use. There is something out there for everyone, no matter how much time you have. Cheers.

i have sooo many social networking sites like face book and friendster and flicker but none of them pay except for mylot. although face book and others have kind of chat features too but i prefer mylot. i find that nowadays i don't use any other social networking site as much as i use mylot. the main reason why i love mylot is because everything is a discussion and every one's invited to share their opinions freely. and because its anonymous its freer. and i feel that the feelings here are mutual and more genuine than your actual friends who wouldn't tell you the truth. mylot friends are hard to come by but its totally worth the wait. and even though we're separated by millions and millions of miles it feels as though we're right next to each another helping one another through it all. i mean just look at the discussions, we have people feeling depressed who gets cheered up right away seeing people answer them in such a loving manner as if we knew each other all along. its amazing how we have the commitment and love for such strangers we barely know. and it just warms my heart to log in to mylot everyday before i go to bed. it just makes me sleep much better knowing that i have responded to someone on mylot and hopefully made their day. MYLOT ALL THE WAY BABY!

Such a thorough and thoughtful post. The great thing about forums is that discussions are free for everyone to join in on. MyLot, and its members, do a much better job of keeping things civil. The abuse can get really out of hand on some boards. Because myLot is an all-purpose social networking site, it has broad appeal to many people from around the world. MyLot provides an arena where many people with similar experiences/problems can get together and talk. You might not have the number, or diversity, of opinions at a local level. MyLot is an excellent source for quality advice and help. There are some really upstanding myLot citizens out there. I think the customizability of the platform, the flexible way that myLot allows users to display there attributes, and the multitude of ways that we can interact with one another makes it easier to find friends here than on other sites. It's good to hear that you enjoy the time that you spend on myLot and that it enhances your life. Cheers.

No, I won't use mylot to replace my other social networking sites. I used mylot solely for the purpose of making money, nothing else. If I can make some friends here, I would definitely will. Other than that, I wish that I can make as much as I can from mylot, that is all.

Well the ability to earn from your activity is one of the great advantages that myLot has over other sites. We all have our motivations for using myLot. I focus on the contributions that other members make rather than their reasons for being here. Thanks for sharing.
