I recently received an email from someone claiming to be a U.N. representative who wanted to inform me that my email address had been randomly selected to recieve what equaled to about 10 million american dollars that i would have to donate it all to various charitable causes of my choosing. Needless to say I recognized the notice for the scam it was but it got me to thinking you know what if it was real and in that case which charities and organizations would I have chosen? So now I pose this question to you. If you had been chosen who would you donate to, how much and why?

First I would say, like you said, it's just scam. So nothing here is true. But you still pose this question to us. So it shows your keen on this discussion. Good for you. If I was selected, I would donate those charities or organizations that are for real causes, but never cheating. After second thought, I guess we shouldn't just donate them to somebody, we just could consider starting some organizations like that with the money, and keeping it running. So it will be more stronger than the limited money and lasts longer. How do you myLotters think?

That is one avenue I didn't consider and it makes good sense like the schools that the rich and famous are continuously opening in Africa or the scholarships for they offer for low income kids for college. Then of course with the state of our current economy that would also create jobs. You know whats crazy about the email it had a United Nations letterhead, a contract, and contact info for the representative in malaysia.

i never ever check my email and i actually have more than a thousand of them. i just get so many junk mail that i don't bother using it anymore. one of my favorite things to do of all time is to donate to animal shelters and other charity organizations that help fight against animal cruelty and saving wild animals and domestic pets. you'd be surprise with the way some people treat their pets.
all pets want nothing more but the love and adoration of their owners and it breaks my heart to see people throwing hot water on dogs and abusing them and starving them for no purposeful reason. not long ago there was a German Shepard who had to be put asleep because she has suffered too much under the so called "care" of her owner. she was found starved, with no food, and no clean water, she was lying in her own feces, and she was terribly afraid of the SPCA members who came to rescue her. her stomach was bloated due to the serious swelling of her abdomen from the tainted water and she had maggots gnawing in to her brains.
they tried everything to save her but it was too late she had to be put to sleep. all her owner got was a small fine of 300 bucks and was let to go. such a thing was demeaning to the poor dogs life. being said that i wish more people will be aware of animal cruelty and help fight against it.

Usually, it's best to deal with those charities and organizations you choose to contact, or those with which you've dealt before. There are so many scams out there that can quit easily cause us untold problems!

Don't believe anything that you read on the letter because it's nothing more than just s scam. No, there's no way am gonna donate anything. U.N. won't be doing that sort of thing. They would asked NGO and Business to donate for them and not individual through email.you should just delete it and put it on spam.

I would donate it all to the hospitals that look after premature babies. I am in England and not all English hospitals can cope with this.
My Grand daughter was only 3lb 3oz the size of a womans hand when she was born 10 weeks early. She had to be in a special incubator for 8 weeks and they only had 8 in the hospital.
A lot of people have to travel miles from their home if they give birth to an early arrival baby and it would be lovely if all hospitals had this facility.

since that day that i went for an ear surgery, the setting that i saw in that hospital has never left my mind. i saw people waiting in the hall, sitting on the ground, and i saw this little child with a big lump on the right side of her chin, my husband asked the father what was wrong and why are they still there just waiting (because it was like they were already there for more than a week, as the first time i went there for my schedule they were already there, then when we came back after 3 days, they were still there)... and so the father replied, its because they were waiting for money so that the child can have her surgery... it got me to thinking, that if i have made so much money, i'd go back to that hospital, look for patients that are waiting in line for surgery because they have no money, id pay for it. that where will some of the money go.
then id go to provinces, talk to town officials there on how to have a livelihood income for the people so that they can at least earn and have money to buy food... i've watched a documentary, there's a part here where some people are getting insane because of malnourishment, no food to eat.
then there is this institution that i have been to when i was still a child, its where those that are mentally retarded are put and they are trained and taught there like they are normal kids, and they are really nice people, i want to put some of the money there, so that place will always be there to help those kind of people.
i would be hesitant to put it in a church, id be very careful as to which church, because i've been to most churches and a lot of elders there are just always after the money.
and then i'd put some of it in a tv station here, they have a foundation, and the money that are donated there are really being used to good causes.
so there, this has gotten so very long... sorry... lol
that is 10 million, a lot to give...

Im not worried about the length of your response(smile) but the quality of it actually brought tears to my eyes. Of course I have heard of people who have been in situations like the young girl and her family but the way you described it was really touching. I will definitely say a prayer for that family. Its touching that you would try to help alleviate some of the suffering that you had witnessed personally and not just pick from some of the major charities.

Oh dear its another one of thoss scams.... It is a golden rule that if you never participated in some kind of lottery you cannot win any cent. They try to elicit your personal banking details to elicit money from your account. Beware of such emails.

I get emails all the time asking me to be their beneficiary or that I've won some obscure lotto that I never entered. But, if by some odd chance, I really won something like that I would donate to aids and cancer research, local charities for children and animals, schools... things like that.

I would contact as many home mortgage companies as I could and ask them to allow me to payoff their very next repossessed homes to be sold at auction. Next, I would sign homes back over to owners. My goal would be to save seven to ten homes.
I would make a donation to St. Jude's Childrens Hospital.
I would also make a donation to Red Cross, Oversees Military Division.
Ten million dollars is not a lot of money anymore, but I would try to make it count for something positive.

Well honestly i believe in the activities carried out by UN in African countries. The only reason that makes me feel so is because they are transparent as to where the money is going and how much progress is being made. Besides the charity, i would like to donate money for improving the illiteracy prevailing in major developing nations of the world.
