We had a robins nest on our porch. The last of the baby chicks flew away on Thursday. I cried. I was so upset. I watched them grow up in such a short period of time. Took the nest down yesterday since then never came back. I really enjoyed watching the mother bird feed the chicks. I miss seeing their furry heads. Hoping to get another opportunity to see baby birds again. So has this happened to anyone? Did you cry and miss the birds after they flew the nest? I never thought I would get so upset about birds that were not even mine that were just taking residence on my porch.

This time don't touch the nest. Out here, S.W. MO, robins nest twice a year. I know I know, I didn't think they'd do that either, but I have a pair that showed up last year and nested twice. And they're out there now sprucing up the nest from the two chicks that just left.

Ok, I won't. I didn't know they came back to the same nest to have more chicks. I just figured they had babies once and that was it.

The good news is another bird built a nest in the same spot so I get to see more birds. Yay!

I always thought it was so cool that right outside our only kitchen window growing up in the farmhouse there was a nest every spring for the robins. I used to sit there and watch them and now that I'm a photographer I realize how amazing that opportunity was. I never cried when they left however, I did shed a couple tears when I would see broken eggs on the ground though.
