When talking to other people or reading an article, do you think to yourself, "Where did they get this information?"; "How do they know this information is true?" "What is this person (or this writer's) agenda?
I don't know about you other MyLotters but I am a critical thinker. My critical thinking skills can be very useful when I am trying to solve a problem. However, sometimes my skeptisism turns into cynisism and it all goes bad. I have caught myself wondering why people said hello to me, or why they were trying to be nice. Sometimes I can empose guilt on an innocent person, just because my critical thinking had led me to doubt.
So MyLotters....Are you critical thinkers?? Has it ever gotten you into trouble??

Critical thinking can, indeed, go too far. I find it important to go beyond this thinking and ask those important questions. People are sometimes offended by directness like this, but it's rare. Most enjoy the opportunity to get into a deeper discussion.

Well I most certainly do think a lot, about each every thing, and about how this idea just came to your mind of writing an article based on this! :D
I suppose you could call me a 'critical thinker' and just like you said, sometimes the thinking is accompanied by scepticism and that eventually may turn into cynicism. And that's when you start cursing yourself for thinking too much, well I do at least. I think I think I think...that critical thinking can be quite useful at places where analyzing skills are required. Once I start thinking I just start getting deeper and deeper into the matter! It's hard to escape from it too!
Once you're able to remove the cynicism part, it's perfect, you've mastered the art of thinking. I'm still trying to do that and it's very difficult but I guess I am making some progress :) Some scepticism always has to be there though, to be able to analyze the positive and negative alternatives of a situation. :P

I don't think always but some times i get those kind of ideas, I think everyone gets the information before doing research and getting the information from others, so they do hard work for that one so certainly i don't mind, you have asked good question to us.

I'd like to think that I am. I am a virgo after all, and they are supposed to be very critical. Where it is very useful, is in my critting group, where I have to give positive feedback on at least one story per week. I have found that in work situations it can be a minefield, though, because people can so easily suspect you of having hidden agendas or accuse you of getting them into trouble. Way back, when I was in artschool, I learnt a few useful lessons about criticism. First to criticise, you must say what works about something and what doesn't. Now the tricky bit, when you say what is wrong about something, you should also be able to offer practical suggestions on how to fix it. And try to leave personal opinions out of it. For instance, that is wrong because I hate the color purple, is just not good enough - ha-ha, criticism on criticism.

sounds a little like paranoia (which can be a good thing). I consider myself a critical thinker when I need to be, but when it leads me toward paraonoia, I try to calm down and think about other things. And as far as I can remember, critical thinking hasn't gotten me into trouble, but paranoia has caused stress in my life.
