I was debating where I should put this discussion. I know that it's about studying the bible, but it's also about my fiance and I, and us both studying the bible. My fiance and I are going to study the bible together every sunday and are talking about attending church. We're taking baby steps though, but are doing this for us and to be closer to god. I know there's things both of us don't know about god that we should, so we're going to study the word and learn together, become closer to each other and to god.
Are any other couples doing this or have done this? Did it bring you closer to each other? Did it bring you closer to god?

Well before my husband and I got Married he chose to start attending the one I had been attending, and over 10 yrs. later we are still attending this church as well. We have studied and read the Bible together many times, and have even done Bible studies with others as well. I find that when you read and study the word it helps to give you a stronger relationship with God, and will help you understand his desires for your life as well. And doing it together before you get married will be a Big plus when you get married as well.

There are still some awkward moments that my fiance and I are facing, but we are learning to be open with one another, and we pray together as well. I've noticed our prayers are similar. We hope to start attending the church we are going to be married at, I'm not sure if I said that in my discussion. Of course, we haven't talked thoroughly about that, but in given time we will.

My parents made us do like reading a bible verse every wednesday night and just join together in prayer as a family to thank God for everything. In my perspective, it brought us together as a family to learn about God and just thank Him for what He has done in each of our lives. It brings you to learn more about God and it would also help to find a group of people who meets every week or every month to learn more about the Bible. It is good that you are putting God as a center of your married life and so that everything will follow as how He planned it to be.

Once my fiance and I find a church that we enjoy we may very well start attending a bible study group or offer a couple's bible study group if one is not available at the church. I think that your idea was great about doing that. I'm glad your parents had you join together with them to study and pray. In my family it was never a neccessity to do any biblical reading.

My husband doesn't mind having a bible in the house, but he won't read it, let alone study it. He's a confirmed agnostic...........
I've read and studied the bible a lot over the years, and you know what? The easiest way, I've found for me, (Your choices are yours and I make no judgement on them) to be close to God is to live by one simple rule...........
"First do no harm".
In other words, live life with loving intentions, laugh, don't judge, and pay it forward. I feel, see and sense God within me, within you, within everything my eyes and heart and mind behold, and that's good enough for me......
I applaud your intentions Cowgirl and I hope you and your fiance find the answers you are looking for. Brightest Blessings my friend.

We're going slowly to find what works for us but your right, doing unto others as you'd have them do unto you is one way to be closer to god! I know at one time I was agnostic, but that was before I really understood faith. Now I'm learning more and more.
I appreciate your response, and hope your having a great day!

Baby, this is a pretty good discussion, and I know that we have started to study the bible every Sunday unless we are busy and I think that it's a good idea for us to study the bible and for any couple to study the bible because it can help bring couples closer together and it can also help them become closer to God,and I am sure that different people have different views on studying the bible, some probably study the bible every Sunday, and others might study every once in a while, and we are also doing marriage counseling work books to help us learn to communicate and to also help us get closer to God so that way when we do get married we will have a marriage that God will be proud of,I love you with all my heart and soul, have a great day, good luck with all of your mylotting goals, and Happy Posting.

Yes I know that we are also doing marriage counseling books and depending on how much more we are going to be assigned to do, we will have to see when we do them and if on Sunday how much time we will have to study the bible. I love you with all of my heart and soul, happy mylotting, and catching up with me.

Yes I know that some people do not grow up with going to church often, I know I didn't. I went to many different churches, twice with churches that have a different belief system. Now though I hope to go to church regularly and if not to study the bible. I hope you can get your husband and children involved in their bible studies. There are many resources online to help, and some even have crossword or wordsearch puzzles that are fun and educational.
