I remember paper dolls. I didn't play with them enough to remember any of them by name. One memory I have of playing with them is that my sister and I used to design our own clothes for them and draw them ourselves. We drew a lot of hippie clothing..... halter tops, bell bottom hip huggers. Haha

Pots was a want-to-be hippie. I was too young, but my sisters were teenagers and I wanted to be just like them.

my memory of paper dolls were the ones my sisters and i made ourselves. back then we couldn't afford to buy dolls and commercial paper dolls still cost money we didn't have. out of shoeboxes and old calendars, we were able to make our own version of paperdolls along with their dresses. my mom used to be a sewer so she would tell us ideas on how to make skirts and dresses and gowns. the rest we leave to our imaginations.
those were really good old days, when fun and entertainment didn't cost much. we had simpler pleasures back then. hehehe :)

I remember when I was young, I paly paperdolls with my sister and cousins. We even learned how to make dresses out of paper. We would "decorate" those dresses with the latest "styles" and then have our paper dolls wear the dresses for parties or fashion shows.

Oh yeah, I remember those paper dolls. How fun those were!! But those darn tricky tabs that you would fold down over the doll, no wonder the thing didn't last!! I know they had came up with some sort of magnetized paper doll which was really neat but it didn't last long either. I think little girls would still have fun with them. I know my sister and I did. But heck, we used to have fun with M & M's too!!

I remember paper dolls! I would buy the "book" and couldn't wait to get home to punch out the people and their clothes! Then I could play with them for hours!
We were mostly poor though and there was one time my grandma showed me how to make my own paper dolls using an old catalogue! I remember sitting with her for what seemed like hours. It took a lot longer to "shop" for clothes that would fit! They had to be facing the same way as the person and be about the same size. She showed me how to make minor alterations and make the clothes work for the people I had cut out!
Thanks for bringing up some fond memories from childhood!

Thank you!! You made me want to go dig up a catalogue and look through it to see if you can still make paper dolls from it! Maybe I'll start a book of things I want to do with my grandchildren!!
Have a great week yourself!!

that's a great idea. when my grandson comes to visit we do simple things & he has such a good time. he has toys here but nothing like he has at home. wish people would let kids be kids for as long as they can. adulthood comes too quick sometimes. i hope other people see your response & do the same thing. thanks alot.

I remember paper dolls. I thought they were pretty but I never remember liking them much. I was kind of a tom boy and I found dolls pretty boring to play with. Paper dolls were just a pain....all that intricate cutting and all....just to see what an outfit looked like on the silly doll. I had plenty of them...my mom hated that I would rather climb trees and play ball than sit around playing with dolls.

I had paper dolls when I was a kid. I don't know if they were supposed to be anyone or not. I just remember playing that & a Peter Rabbit board game there.
My MIL has also told me that when she grew up in the country they didn't have money for such things. So they made their own paper dolls using the Sears Catalog and cutting out the models in there and that's what they used. Pretty creative if you ask me!

Paper dolls? Well the memories I have about paper dolls are when I'd cut my paper pads just to make my own paper dolls and my mom would be so angry because I wasted those paper pads. ha!ha!ha! I used to love cutting out female figures and caled them my paper dolls. Ohhh those were the days and have completely gotten over that passion. Now, I could not even handle the scissor. I have gotten so busy about so many things.

I loved playing with paper dolls. You would have to cut out the dresses and then they cut outs had little tags so that you could hang the dress on the doll by bending the tags at the shoulders and sides of the paper doll. Weren't we blessed to be able to develop our imagination as children? I also remember Virginia Mayo as a very beautiful movie star. Bette Grable I can only remember seeing in a cowboy movie as a child where she sang.Hey, you have brought back or resurrected some wonderful memories for me and given me the idea for a post too!

I've played with paper dolls with my little sister when we were kids. :)
My daughter had also played with those paper dolls when she was quite younger, coz now, that she's 12, her interests are changing... but I remember whenever we go out some years ago, we would always go home with paper dolls that she'd asked for me to buy her...

Oh yeah! I made my own paperdolls and their dresses although i could not remember their names anymore! I learned how to draw them from a cousin who really has a flair for drawing faces and things. My childhood bestfriend used to come over to our house just to have us play with those dolls. I had a box full of the clothes which i colored with crayons. Four years ago i saw some really colorful ones and of a nice quality paper and i bought four of them with all those accessories that you cut out from the pages. My then six year old niece was so thrilled! It's nice when we see children playing with the things we also enjoyed having when we were their age. Hmmm...memories...

We also had paper dolls but I don't think any of them survived very long...too flimsy but we had a blast with them while they lasted. I have looked for paperdolls for my granddaughters but haven't really ran across any. They have wooden ones that you can color in at JoAnn's but no clothes for them.

This brings back lovely memories! I adored paper dolls as a child - and would make my own, as well as having collections of bought ones. I'd draw my dolly and stick her on cardboard, then cut her out - then I'd spend hours designing clothes for her, colouring them in, etc. I had shoeboxes full of them, and many, MANY happy hours of entertainment. I haven't seen paper doll books for years - I suppose they are still available. I have two little granddaughters, so I must ask my daughter whether they've ever had paper dolls - and if not, I'm going to see whether I can buy some!

I STILL love paperdolls! I remember the ones in the McCall's magazine. When I was a kid the ones with magnetic clothes were popular too! I saw some regular paperdoll sets at a flea market recently that were from the old TV show "family affair". I loved that show with Mr. French and Buffy, Jody, Sissy and Uncle Bill! I almost bought them but talked myself out of it. Now I kick myself!

Hi,
Ya, I remember that I played paper dolls when I am still a kid. There are different kinds of paper clothes for the doll that I bought at the school canteen. Other than paper dolls, I also played Barbie dolls kitchen set, living room and more. The barbie dolls are still well kept in the cupboard up till now.

My sister played paper dolls I remember she kept her paper dolls in a box when we are younger. I'm not a paper dolls fun when I was young I always the opposite of my sister that time. I want to played outdoor and my sister want to play alone with her paper dolls. One time I cleaned our house I found her paper dolls in a plastic so what I do I give them to our neighbors who have kids. When we are younger my parents can afford us to buy a toys so what my sister do to have a doll she make her own paper dolls but sometimes she buys from her allowance. Now the children is so very lucky that everything they want they could get.
