Religious gospels teach us to live unattached or less attached to the material world,as everything in this material world is short lived and perishable in nature and one has to leave all assets and properties one accumulate throughout his/her life, while departing from the world. On the other hand, non-attachment leads one to lead a life of indifference, lethargy, carelessness and direction less. Which path one should opt?

There has to be moderation when it comes to attachment. Further more we should look at this from various stages in life. We should have the attachments for us to carry out our reponsibilities to ourselves, family and society. After having reached a certin stage in this, we should learn to detach, for we leave this world without any of these material attachments.

in a world like we have today we can not help but to get attached to material world. like if ever we dont know anything about computer then the work requires knowledge in computer then what will happened to us. i think we can have to have limitations not just on material but on anything there is in the world. we have to use it moderately and in the proper way.

I believe that the material world is short lived and that people spend way too much time trying to keep up on material items and not enough on just enjoying life. This is why there is so much debt in the US today! It is silly. I think if more people respected what they had and didn't just throw things away and go get something new the planet would be alot better off.

Thanks for nicely responding and sharing your personal view points. I agree with you that people spend too much time to accumulate material items without giving much attention to enjoying life and to appreciating the broad human values.Once they realize the transitory character and non-permanence of the material world, start living simpler mode of life, and stop crazily running after material luxury,we may relieve the pressure of mounting consumption and wastage of natural resources. Have a nice day!!

Why do you think non attachment to material things makes us indifferent etc? All it means is that one's attention is directed toward other things. the people we call genius would not be able to help humanity nearly as much if they were hung up on material things.
