how to learn english well? plz help me!

I had a hard time when I came to US in 98.I couldn't understand why my friends are laughing at TV when we were watching this comedy show because I couldn't understand English.Lots of people laughed at me it because I couldn't speak well and understand what they say.It was insane. I've learned through music and movies,also watched kids program.sounds funny but it worked. I'm still learning. Don't give up on learning :) sometimes I feel stupid it because I have to ask what people says etc..but you are better off because you can speak more than one language :) I am originally from Japan and I can understand both Japanese and English now.Like I said I am still learning by talking to lots of people and watching/listeing to what I like(like movies and music).Don't be afraid of making a mistake also :) Good luck!!!
