Affiliate program. Share your experiences please

Hi I am interested to join affiliate program to promote their products and getting paid via commission from each sales. However, I am skeptical about this business. Does people buy these products online? How good should I promote it to make people click my link and buy the products? Anyone here been very successful in affiliate program like worldniche and clickbank? Please share how you 'sell' these products and do you earn a lot?

I tried to sell different products online and joined the top affiliate programs, but unfortunately it did not work the way I planned. Maybe it's because the product I sell is not hot, or I used the wrong strategies.
This is why I stopped affiliate marketing and shifted to resell rights ebooks instead. My earnings now are far above the usual since I am making a 100% commission per sale. Yes, I bought the ebook and I am re-selling it on the same price.
After all, affiliating a product also requires you (most of the times) to buy the product and the marketing strategies are easier to apply.
