well the hot weather has encroached upon us already - and that means bugs. bugs. bugs. bugs. amidst all the bothersome pests the most troublesome is those little moths and their grubs that get into the grains.
What is your remedy for preventing them from infesting your dry storage?

lots and lots of tupperware.
i transfer all dry stuff to containers, and i also microwave whatever it is for 10 sec to kill any possible larvae before putting it in containers.
we were infested from a brand new stop n shop store one year-moths galore.
never again.had to throw out everything.

we got infested one year too - from a box of oatmeal. it was awful for 3 years, last year was not so bad - only a couple dozen moths were discovered. I wonder if the grubs went into the woodwork to hibernate or something.
I found that they are attracted to those fly strips so keep them hung in the pantry as well... of course maybe I am attracting them to the pantry with the fly strip... as I slap the heal of my hand to my forehead in a *v-8* kind of moment.

The bugs are actually in the grain from when it was growing. The moths lay the eggs and the don't hatch till they are in your airtight storage bins. Even processed goods like flour etc can end up with an infestation. I contacted a firm when I found bugs in my gravy powder. They assured me that all steps had been taken to fumigate and eradicate...blah, blah, blah,. Obviously, there's not a lot we can do.
