What's a Twitter????

Everyone's talking about Twitter in MyLot and I don't know how to respond to those discussions because I don't know what Twitter is and how it works. I have seen some ads just a few weeks ago and still I have no clue. Can someone tell me what it is? Can I earn money from twittering?
I'm just curious that's all.

From what I can tell it's just a place to do a mini-blog or blast to quickly tell people what you're doing, it's also a way of keeping up to date with friends and family who are on there.
I don't think there is a way of making money on there, well, if there is, I've not found it yet.

What problems are you having?
It took me a few attempts to get signed up, I think it's possibly due to the amount of 'traffic' that they have.

I use Twitter - it's effectively a very brief blog site, similar to the status update boxes on Facebook and MySpace.
You only have limited space to write something but you can write whatever you like, as many times per day that you want to.
There are a lot of celebrities on there and you don't have to be "accepted" to "follow" them - it's a bit of a stalkers paradise.
I only use it sporadically although it did give me a nice surprise when one of my favourite bands began "following" me when I didn't even know they were on there and to make it even better, that happened a few weeks before I saw them in concert and the lead singer, Jesse Hughes actually recognised me on the front row and dedicated a song to me :D
I don't really understand all the hype though.

Twitter is a lot like facebook and the others I assume. I have not signed up with them. I dont think I will either,I dont think I would have the time for that.
