People get married for a lot of reasons, some of the the right ones and some the wrong, but we all have to look deeply at ourselves and figure out what makes it so important or unimportant for ourselves. Myself, I don't have to get married to be happy, but if the right person comes along, I would strongly consider marriage for companionship, sharing and growing together in our interests, children, and whatever else we agreed on.

We get married for many reasons. The most importantones are: to have children and that we have the egoistic feeling that if we marry the guy or the girl we are with, then no one else will have him or her.

To me, marriage is something you enter into when you are sure you want to be with the person for the rest of your life, as proof of your commitment.
Unfortunately, it's been cheapened a bit by people who enter into it thinking they are in love and then divorcing a year or two later. I blame celebrities for that, they made divorce cool.

All of those, I guess. Personally, I believe there is value in a legal, committed relationship over simply living together. It means a dedication to trust, communication, and effort in keeping the relationship together.

I believe the reasons are different in different countries and cultures, but for me the primary reasons are:
1) Life is just easier when you have someone to share it with
2) I love the man I married and we have common goals in life
3) Children
4) Financial security
