I think karate is the best one It gives your body more coordination and also more skills in streamlining your body. Its necessary that every women learn their own skills!!

I think there is no need for studing a tough skill like karate..Just study the blocking techniques..that will help a lot!!

In Karate you actually attack when you are blocking. in punches you move from the center of attack and then attack the arm for the kicks you actually again move yourself from the way of the attack and/or attack the kick directly, again this depend on the karate stile but basically Karate is too rough for most of the women, even for big part of men.

I have found over the 20 or so years I have been practicing that women seem to excel at judo and jujitsu. Both arts are helped by a lower center of gravity and tend to take less strength. Women also do well in various styles of kung fu.
But in choosing an art for yourself, take a good look at yourself and your own body type. Longer legs are suited for kickboxing or tae kwon do; longer arms, akido. Will you study for peace and meditation as well, or are you looking for a more aggressive style?
The best thing to do is to visit your local instructors and have them give you a 'free' lesson - if you are serious, most good instructors will introduce their style to you to see if it's a good fit for you. Styles not only differ by major branch - i.e. karate, judo, kung fu - but by the family that was developed their own style over the centuries and by the individual instructor.

Well, from what I have tried so far best defense for women is the surprise. No one expect for you to be Grand Master in Marshal Arts, most of guys don't even expect for you to resist that much. And yet you cant just hit him in genitals and run (trust me I've felt it on myself it hurt but it give you enough adrenaline to manage to get up catch the victim and make her pay) my cousin used to do that to me when we argue about something, I always manage to get up catch her and beat her but that's not the point. When she started Free Fight training she was smarter than that managed to beat me every time even when I am 2 times heavier than her and lot taller. When I got beaten like a baby few times I started to go to Free Fight training too. It is pretty much same as MMA what you can see on TV except the rules for fair play. Free Fighting is made for protection on the streets based on all other fighting stiles no matter if it will be locks from ju jitsu, kicks and punches or throwing from judo and sambo. And gues what the best thing is that on the street no one will disqualify you for eye picking or biting ( and trust me this can sometime save your life ).
Beside that the best way to win a fight is actually never to engage one. There are ways to make even the most aggressive person to think twice before he attack you. But this is another subject of discussion :) Happy myLoting
