Is the recession affecting your shopping?

I am sad that a number of my favorite goods the shops have stopped selling like the vegan biscuits that one supermarket used to have lots of. A shop called Woolworths that I used to really like has closed down. A deodorant that I loved to use had been discontinued and I am having difficulty finding another that I like as much. The price of dog food is considerably more expensive. I like to take advantage of any special offers that are relevant to me.

I used to like Woolworth's as well. You could buy such a wide range of stuff in there, and cheaply, compared to a lot of other shops. I really missed it being there at Easter when I wanted to buy Easter Eggs for the kids. I couldn't get any in the end, and that was only on the Thursday. In the end, I treated them to an Easter Egg Hunt at a local farm, but they too had run out of eggs and gave little soft toys as prizes. Ho hum! I shall really miss Woolworths at Christmas too because the kids always seemed to choose something from there.
As for the rising prices and discontinued goods, I think that will happen a lot more yet. We have a long way to go before we emerge from this recession, I fear. It seems the manufacturers don't do a lot to help cut costs either. They're forever changing packaging, and changing recipes for things, which makes it impossible to keep prices down. I think it's hit a lot of us very hard in our pockets, and I for one, am having to tighten my belt.
Brightest Blessings.

Its effecting me alot, also because unemployment is increasing here in Great Britain and i lost my job due to it im having to skimp and scrap.
I have had to cut down on brands like coke and buy cheaper things where possible and because im a student i dont mind. I know spend about £5 for froozen food for a month by buyin tescos own brand, then what ever else i need i get from Tesco or Lidl. For me to go to Tesco its a mile there and back and i walk it because i cant waist my money on a bus. I used to shop at Lidl and Sainsburys as its nearer but more expensive so for me to wlk 2 miles and save like £15 on my food shop is helping and made me realise that you dont need to be embarrased about where you shop or what you buy as in the recession you can kick your pride.

It has affected my wife and i's shopping but it's fine with us because we needed to save a lot for the future of our son. my beautiful wife gave birth to a baby boy last month and since prices of basic commodities and baby stuffs are expensive we both have decided not to do a lot of shopping for ourselves. we would rather save it up for our son's education or buy some baby things for him.

Not really...we are always pretty frugal when it comes to shopping. And even before the recession I loved to browse and shop in charity shops, or pick up reduced food stuff because of it's ' use -by-date'. ( so what, we eat the stuff on the day anyway, its not ' bad ' stuff)
The dog and cats, rather than getting branded pet food, eat more leftovers, but they are thriving.
There is only so much you can cut down on...we all have to eat, and hopefully healthily. Unfortunately the cheapest stuff is also often the most fatty/ sugary/ processed stuff. I'd rather not cut down in favour of these.
In the end you get - mostly- what you pay for. More money can mean better quality so if you buy a cheap pair of shoes they may not last that long. Which means, back to the charity shops which have great - and often quality!- bargains on everything from
clothes to cookery ware to handbags to toys. Can't do without Oxfam!

Lets just say that I am down to the basic grocery requirement. All the impulse buying or the feel-good food that I used to love buying so much, has gone out of the list. Nowadays, I think twice before trying out the new flavoured mayo or the jar of exotic fruit preserve or the tub of the latest luxury icecream to hit the shelves this summer. Similarly for the market…what I buy now are the absolute essentials which we need and maybe a tub of the regular strawberry icecream to keep my son happy. Children don’t understand recession.

I have stopped buying "luxury" things such as books for now. It is a time when one must save money rather than spending them. It was sad to hear that Woolworths have closed shops after long years open. But its reality and the economy is not so good at the meantime. I have sticked to the usual brand regarding dog food but I am trying to save money regarding vet fees. Usually I took my dog to the vet even if I thought that it was not necessary (just a check up)... now I take it when I cannot do without a vet.

Whose shopping ISN'T it affecting around here?
A couple stores and restauraunts have shut down around here, also the prices keep fluctuating like mad...so we're just happy to get whatever we can, most trips.
But it's spring now, and soon it'll be summer...and we're farming, so that'll help us immensely.
On other sorts of shopping, we always do flea markets and rummage sales...but even this has been affected as more and more people're doing the same thing and we don't have as money to get to many of them anymore.
It's not awful, our situation, just a bit dampened by things. ^_^'

well, I haven't noticed anything so far. I try not to think about recession at all, so I buy everything I need. I love Whole Foods store although it is a little bit more expansive than the others, but I love fresh fruits and vegetables there. I hope that everything will get back to normal pretty soon though.

I think somewhat it has an effect on my shopping. At least today I try to avoid to buy something I don't need. But yesterday I still bought the scooter and street board so that we can have fun together. Especially the Labor Day holiday is coming, and we can have more time to play it:)

The recession hasn't affected my shopping yet, but I notice I have to take out a much larger amount of money in order to do the same shopping I've always done. Lately, I've noticed in particular that cheese (in all its forms) seems to have doubled in price. Products have sneakily gone down in size, even though they are in the same packages and we are paying the same amount, or more.

I actually don't get to shop barely at all like I use to. I just do not have the money now. I use to get a couple things consistently at a favorite vegan shop, but I haven't been able to get anything, due to money issues. I sadly can't splurge on non-necesseties. Though, I do believe cookies are necessaties. I would be very disappointed if I found out that my favorite vegan cookies (biscuits) were no longer at the supermarket I go to.
I didn't know that Woolworths was still around. We had a Woolworths many, , many years ago, way, way before all this recession stuff, but it went out of business. I really liked those stores.
It seems like everything is more expensive. Funny how more people have less money, but thing go up in price. Surely doesn't make sense.

I miss Woolworth's too I used to buy all my gardening stuff there every year, and buy things like tea light candles and washing up sponges. It's getting hard to eat properly on my budget now too as everything has gone up in price so it's hard to afford enough fresh vegetables and I have to buy white bread etc. I'm just waiting for the vegetables I'm growing myself this year to come in so I can start eating properly again.

Yes, i do felt the impact recently on my food budget. In my country, the price of some food are getting expensive that i don't buy anymore. Like example, cheese spread. I had to cut-off from my list. But, i do buy them when they are having special offer on certain times of the month. I had eaten less meat and more on vegetables, since the price had gone-up. So, it's better to spend and eat wisely during this recession time..
