Buffet or Served at the Table? Which do you prefer?

Tonight we decided to go out for dinner in our new town and try out a chinese restaurant. Yep, I love chinese food but sometimes its not as good as others.
When we got to this restaurant, there was only 2 other couples there and the waitress told us a buffet was starting in about 5 minutes if we wanted to wait.
Normally I dont like to eat from a buffet, because everything looks so good, that I cant decide what I want and end up eating too much. When I try to eat less, then I feel its not worth paying the price of the buffet for the little bit I would eat.
Today I decided to try the buffet to see what all their different dishes were like. Let me tell you, it was delicious. I even stopped before I had too much..well not really...lol
So this is why I usually order from the menu. The portion is less, people arent picking through my food, (hate it when I see someone blowing their nose and then touching the ladles to scoop food on their plate)..and its usually cheaper than the buffet as I dont eat as much.
What do you prefer, the buffet or being served?
About 10 minutes after the buffet started, the restaurant was packed to capacity, about 200 people.

Is this one of those hypothecial ones again
Got to say I do love Chinese food too. I know what you mean with a buffet about everyone touching the food, just make sure you are first in line. With a buffet at least you do not have to wait to be served, which can be good if you are really hungry. It can be as you say cheaper to not chose the buffet.
To be honest I don't really mind the buffet or being served but, once the fod is good.
I will think twice now I have the image of someone blowing their nose over it
Cheers for the comment on mypage5. I am not sure if I will be there that much as I seem to like mylot better.

Yes I know what you mean, some people don't realise this is a discussion site and is a place to discuss various topics. I have seen discussions where people were blasted just for asking an opinion on a given topic, which is not fair. It can be very annoying when someone starts a discussion on a topic and then it is automatically assumed it is ones opinion.
I do love your hypothetical discussions though.
Mypage5 the payout seems high to reach and I still find the site a little confusing at the moment

Nope. this one is real..lol...I started writing a lot of hypothetical ones because that way there is no right or wrong answer and therefore I cant get myself in trouble. Sometimes when you start discussions, people assume that its my opinion when all Im doing is trying to get a variety of opinions and it might not be what I think at all.
And we really did see a guy blowing his nose, put the hanky in his pocket, and proceeded to the food without washing his hands.
It grossed me out and I was glad that I was done!!
I also like mylot a lot better than mypage5 but since I started it, I have to at least reach payout!

I like the buffets but am like you, it is too easy to overeat. If we go to a buffet we usually go between lunch and dinner and it is for both.

I agree!..Nothing worse than a big long line with people cutting in and out and by the time you get back to your seat, the food is cold
Thats because we serve the men at home, for us its a treat to go out and be served!..lol

Hi sanyorita
I think buffer system is good for me. I don't really like table serve but that is the case when I am in a party.
I have never seen any restaurant in which we are given a buffer system. Not to mention that would be heavy on my pocket because I am that kind of eater that I can't resist myself if I can see those delicious food on table.
So, no I won't like buffer in restaurants but yes, this is a good option with parties!

Personally, I prefer a buffet. But, it's important to know what buffets are good, and what aren't. They quality of the food varies from different places. So, if you want to ensure yourself a good meal, I would go with getting served at your table. A lot of people prefer fresh food to food that has been sitting out for a while.

After what I have seen at buffets, I would want to be the first in line!!..THis was the first time at this particular restaurant and the food was really good. Since we had to wait for them to load the trays, everything was fresh and hot...well, hot anyways..lol
