Do you think it is ethical to prevent one's death due to natural causes?

My mother has had 3 hospitalizations plus a long term double pneumonia. During these events Mom made it clear that she wanted to die of natural causes. As her son, I was named by her and have power of attorney over her affairs. What do you think I should do? Steve Slaton

For myself I am totally clear. Part of the complicating reality for me, and anyone concerning ethics from another person's perspective, is understanding Mom's beliefs and respecting her wishes. Steve

This is a big burden to have on your chest. It's the right thing to do to respect your mom's wishes. If natural causes is the way she wants to go, then I say let her. I'm sure you will know if you've made the right decision.

As hard as it may be you should honor her wishes. I know I would have a horrible time doing so if it were my mom so honestly I probably wouldn't even take my advice. But I guess deep down its not about what we want its about respecting someone elses wishes for the end of life. Good luck with your decision.

Thanks. I am working on honoring Mom's wishes, finally. You can read replies I posted below. Steve
