I dont know about cheapest, But in my oppinion, I think the drums would be the easiest to learn. I'm not really sure what would be the easiest to play though, The guitar or..piano..That is, If you know how to play it.

I happen to be a percussion major and I also play an array of other musical instruments and in my own opinion drums are just as difficult as any other instrument. It takes as much practice, muscle memory, and effort to produce good sound quality from a drum as it does with any other musical instrument and the fact that the way you look while playing (Eg. technique and posture) and developing dominance between limbs is much harder than most other instruments makes it even more difficult.

no I would have to say the recorder. I played one in grade school and paid like $5 for one.

There is nothing like easiest and cheapest in music.. You must be dedicated to whatever you want to know how to do well.. even if you only want too know the basics , you still have to be commited to the instrument yu desire to play .. Time , proper practise and commitment are key factors to consider in playing any instrument.. it has to be decided by you how far you will go ...

guitar is way too expensive...and its not easy to play..
what about the "shaker" you can make it out from a tin can or bamboo and all you need to do is shake it in tempo of the music.
no need to memorise any chord patterns...the shaker is just an offspring of the maraccas...lol!

This is an interesting topic. I am not good at music. I guess perhaps the drum is the easiest musical instrument for me to learn. I think I have to just play the drums on the right time and that's all:)
I love China

It's got to be the triangle. You only hit it with a stick then it will create a sound. I think it's pretty cheap too! It doesn't really need a complicated technology to work and you don't need to learn some musical notes as long as you know how to time. lol! I hope that answers your question. Tambourine is pretty easy too though i don't know if it's as cheap as the triangle.

I should say some of the percussion instruments are cheap and easy to learn. A few example of percussion include Triangle, Drums, Cymbals, Timpani. But most of the percussion instruments is rhythmic oriented, means the pitch of the song is irrelevent. If you want a cheap easy to learn instrument that can produce different pitch, you can try woodwind instruments. This include piccolo, flute, clarinet, bassoon, double bassoon, oboe.

Your voice, if you can carry a tune! lol. It doesn't cost a thing and with practice can be the easiest to control. I love to sing. Close second the piano.
