well if you love music, you will really learn the instruments that you would like to learn if you are interested. like me, actually i do not have my own guitar but i was taught because i am interested. first you heave to learn how to compass songs with your guitar. before you can learn how to play lead, you must go a step by step process. you cannot learn instantly but a practice can make it perfect. so do not be demoralized next time, if you failed then try it again,.... good luck.:-

Hmm probbly you could watch videos on youtube to findout the methods. Eh well, I learned from other people who were by my side who taught me the proper way of strumming and placing the fingers on the fret board.AH yup, that's my advice if you can have someone teach you for free like a friend or a relative feel free to do so.. but if no one is available your next resource would be on youtube or any good website that will teach you how

What does'compass songs with your guitar' mean? COMPOSE you mean?
How on earth are you gonna compose songs with your guitar when you're still learning to play the guitar?
Could you give us a simple list that describes a step by step process?

radhikamon, sassygirl said 'i like piano better' and you say guitar is better. FYI man, I'm a guitarist, and i know music. If you prefer guitar, don't say guitar is better than piano. And i believe every instrument has a limit, and that limit is the player's creativity.

The best thing for you to do is first buy yourself a guitar..You shoul practice it daily without failure..This will help a lot..Further you can buy books written by famous publishers like halleonard etc..Or you can either choose video tutorials by downloading it from the internet..They are available as torrent downloads....

How many of you in this discussion set had even a year of guitar teaching, and playing(not in your bedroom, in bars, school, outside your house)experience?

Hello. I have been teaching guitar since 2003, a variety of Lead, rhythm, classical, jazz, etc, etc. met countless different species of students. Well, everybody can tell you to practice everyday, download lessons, get lots of material, practice, practice, practice. But I am sorry to say all of the advice above so far are ALL WRONG. Basically you would want to have a goal, and a plan. Like "I want to play the guitar like Mr. Steve Vai, playing 'For the Love Of God' song with intense passion, artistry, showmanship, and energy." If you have a goal like that, you must know what the prerequisites are, the requirements. So you would have to do and know the required steps to arrive there. Having no goal is guess work, and will waste more time than produce good playing. Well, let's say you want to play guitar like __________ (fill in the blank). It's not enough just to talk about it. You have to know what you like, what you would do, what you would invest. I learned from teaching at music school, playing in a band, watching other bands, and all the stuff. I collect material but i have my goal, because too much material would confuse you, and give you false directions, distractions. Having an experienced musician as a good friend would help a lot. No, not just the self-declared musicians we see everyday toting cheap acoustic guitars hanging around the streets(not everyone), i mean the experienced players, who already plays at bars, gigs, teaches music, friendly ones---grab a friend like this one. Asking the right questions will also help. You won't learn if you have no good question, got it?

well, my dad once told me
that if you're really eager to learn about stuffs
do give effort.
and that's simply what you need. you can
find online tutorials.
giving you different tabs and chords you
can practice.
with that simple things you can learn to play an instrument.
