water is made up of two gas elements which are hydrogen and oxygen. those two are highly flammable when ignited by flames but why is water immune from catching fire? and it's also used to kill fire..share your comments and thoughts..ü

I am tempted to answer this but I am not sure if my answer would suffice it. Well for one both elements are flammable under one circumstance when they are separated as oxygen and hydrogen. But, when they are combines meaning two Hydrogen atoms and on Oxygen then they become water which becomes fire retardant. But when these two elements are separated they become a volatile element.

oh i get your point rsa101..i also thought of that..that when hydrogen and oxygen are combined, some chemical reaction happens and it produces a combinatin that becomes a fully non-combustible compound..which is water..ü by the way..thanks for responding!ü

The combination of two different substance will cause a chemical reaction. The result should be different with the sources. Let's make a simple example. Water and ice. You can't hurt someone with one liter of water. But if you freeze the water, you can hurt someone with the ice, by throwing the ice to the person. So a chemical reaction will causing substances transformed into different thing, it could be the shape, use, smell, etc. Have a nice day and happy mylotting.

This is a very good question.. Look hydrogen and oxygen are both highly inflammable when they are alone. But in water molecule they form a bond and their inflammable property goon. You need some energy to break the bond and then you can separate them from one another. Then they can be burned. If through some chemical reaction you can break that bond and seperate those two gases then you can diffidently burn them. Water is used to stop fire because when you spread water on some thing that is burning then the water take heat from that thing and vaporize which bring the temperature of the burning material down bellow its burning temperature and that is why it stop burning.

H2O do has the elements of two gases, but it is not made up of them. h2 can burn.o2 can't burn. But I think your question is quite interesting
