What channels do you let your children watch on television? How old are kids?

I have a six year old and a toddler so I am constantly flipping channels to keep them both entertained. Boomerang has been a blessing because it's age appropriate for the six year old and not detrimental to the four year old. It's not exactly educational though so this is usually a weekend thing or late evening thing. Mostly the television stays on Noggin, sprout, disney, or Nickelodeon.

My son mainly only watches "Mothergoose Club" and "Daniel Tiger" on my Netflix. We don't have cable right now so it's limited. It's OK though because he gets distracted very easily lol.

@DanieGirl80587 Really. Do they send you a box or something? How do you get the programs?

@mommaj I think we pay like $8 a month for it and there are a lot of TV shows and movies on there. Not all the season get updated right away, but I still think it's worth it.

My kids rarely watch tv, probably 2-3 hours a week, some times less. My daughter is 10 , soon to be 11 and she loves animal planet. My son is 8 and he likes Cartoon Network, mostly for Star Wars episodes. Every Thursday night we all watch Survivor together. There are entire days that pass that our television is not even on.

My daughter likes some of the animal planet. She was watching a dog show and right afterwards animal cops came on and we sat through 2 minutes of that until we realized what it was and that people were mistreating the animals. She was upset for awhile over animals being abused.

I totally can feel you there. I have a 6 year old and an 19 month old. And we are always flipping channels as well. My 19 month old daughter doesn't really like to watch TV but when she does, I don't think she needs to be sitting there watching ICarly, or Suite Life, or something like that, that my son likes to watch from time to time. We watch Sprout, PBS, Noggin, Nick Jr, Disney. I am thankful that my son still seems to like Little Bill, and the baby shows so that they can share more than fighting over what needs to be on the TV.

I let my son aged three years old to watch cartoon channels on television. He just loves watching them especially Disney cartoons. Sometimes, he will even mimic and showed to me, how is Donald Duck's walking and talking..I just let him watch for 1 hour in the morning and another 2 hours before his noon nap. Most of the time, i will just let him busy with his toys..

I can keep the television on all day long and if my kids actually watch it for an hour I would be surprised. Mostly they play with their toys and run all around. If no one is watching the tv I will put it on something educational hoping their little minds absorb it.

Well I have a 6 year old and a 3 year old, boy and girl, so I am also constantly trying to make sure there is something for both of them. However, like another of your comments, the television could be on all day and they would only watch about 2 hours. It is absolutely frustrating when my husband and I actually want to watch something! The 6 year old is mainly in school all day though, so my daughter usually watches Noggin, Nickelodeon, Disney, or Boomerang. She loves Dora, Diego, Scooby, and the Powerpuff girls. Sometimes there are good programs on PBS also, like Thomas the Train and Curious George. She loves that monkey and she is always learning something from it! Other times, I will get them to watch Animal Planet or the Nature show on PBS also. As long as the content is appropriate it is alright with me because they are always learning something whether it be a new word or a good lesson!
