Ryan Giggs has been voted by the PFA in England "Footballer of the Year".
Whilst Giggs has had a good season for Man Utd, I don't think he's been the best player playing in England this season! I think he's been given this award more based on his performances over his long and glorious career.
Giggs is a great player, and has been a good servant to Man Utd, having played his whole career for the club. I think maybe Steven Gerrard or Tim Cahill should have got the award personally based purely in this season's performances.

I think Ryan Giggs has only won this as he is near the end of his career and has never been given this award before. He has probably deserved it in previous years but this season he has not played enough to get such a to award. I would have gone for Gerrard or Maybe Hangerland from Fulham as he has been outstanding all season and if you look where they were last year and where they are at the moment its a big difference and he has been a big part of that.

I'm as surprised Giggs has not won the award before, as I am that he won it this year. When he first broke through at Man Utd there were times when he was almost impossible to defend against! He's still a good player now, but he has nothing like the same explosive impact on games.

Can't see that Giggs winning is truly justified. Giggs has only started twelve games this year and so can't see him being the best Premiership player. I am a Liverpool fan so would of course said Gerrard but out of the other nominations would say that Vidic was the best player this year (until of course he came up against Torres)

The amount of times Gerrard have basically saved Liverpool's bacon this season - I'd definately have him in my top 2-3 players of the year.

Well, I wonder who will post here to defend the choice of Ryan Giggs for 2009 PFA footballer of the year? Not me. Giggs is a great player with a storied career, but he doesn't deserve this award for this season. It is commendable and even amazing that Ryan Giggs has been able to be so effective as a player in the EPL at such an advanced age (in football terms). The fact that Giggs has been able to continue being a significant contributor to a high-class squad such as Manchester United is truly remarkable. That doesn't make him the best player in the league and it isn't what the award honors. I think that it reduces the significance of the honor when it is awarded improperly.

I honestly dont think Giggs should of won to be honest since he has only played few games, although he scored a great goals occasionally and is a good player for 25 but in Reality this season Vidic has been alot better than him, Gerrard has been alot than him, Rooney, Lampard etc.
Gerrard was one of my favourites because of he has been quality these past few seasons, Lampard has also been playing well recently and Vidic has been superp all year round apart from the liverpool game but surely deserved some credit.
Giggs is a good player and he's had his magic moments but it shouldn't of been player of the year.

What a shame! I dind't know it, I'm really disapointed, seriously, fabregas, gerrard or torres largely must win this trophy, but giggs... he isn't the best player in manchester so in england... I am french and the player we talk the most in france is anelka because he is french but never we talk about giggs, never this year!!!

It is true what you say. Giggs has not been Man Utd's best player this season, let alone the best player in English football!
