Can You Play Any Instruments?

I recently borrowed a friend's violin. She was planning to learn it but became busy so I figured I could probably use it and learn too. I cannot play anything, hehe. I tried to learn the guitar way back when but had trouble with the strumming, lost the desire to learn and have never really tried again. I tried the piano and drums, too, but yeah. I have short attention span, haha. My brother, on the other hand, is self-taught in guitar, bass and drums, and he's good at hearing the chords of each instrument. I can't do it and am envious but still too lazy to learn. Maybe it'll change with the violin, but I heard you can't learn it on your own. So, can you play any instruments? Did you teach yourself? Or were you taught by someone else? What is your favorite instrument to play? What other instrument are you interested in learning?

I'm on intermediate level on playing the bass. I own a BC rich warlock bass in my room. I suck at electric but I'm self taught on there. I can play crazy train by ozzy and a bunch of other rock stuff. ON bass I can play mostly anything as long as I got the right notes. The other instrument I can play are vocals. Well it's a human instrument but it's counted as one in a band. I tried drums but I'm not that great, I can only do some things on drums but I'm not awesome at it.

Haha! Yeah, vocals count. I guess I missed one in the instruments I can play then. I finally have a talent. :P Are you on a band, then? You can play bass, electric and a little drums. Then there's vocals. Anyway, thanks for your response! I envy people with talent, haha!

It has been years since I have played one, but I used to be really good at the piano. My grandmother was the organist at our church, so she taught me. It later got me into choir, and I was glad I could already read notes and such. I also played the flute shortly in high school. I would love to learn to play the guitar or drums, or even refresh myself on the piano. Music is amazing!!!

It is indeed! It's good that you seem to have music in your family, then. My mother didn't know how to play anything either, her sister was excellent at the guitar + vocals, though. While my father loves karaoke, he's not trained in singing, so there tends to be some very loud tones that don't need to be loud, LOL! I hope we can learn the instruments we want to, in the future. :P Thanks for the comment!

Hi there. When I was in Grade School, I was a member in our Drum & Lyre Band. I was a majorette that time, but our instructor teach me how to play the Lyre. Since then when there are no occasions for the Band to attend to that needs majorette I play Lyre. One time when we went to our Uncle's house, they have this piano on the living room. When I looked at it, for me it looks like a lyre to me, so I play the piano with the music I learned in the Drum & Lyre Band and to my surprise I play it well. So that time my Uncle gave the said piano and I was happy because I can learn how to play piano too at the same time. My mom buy we this chords music book of learning piano, so I read it and do what is told in the book. Since then little by little I learn how to play it by myself only. One year later, we have this choir at the our neighborhood chapel, then I play in there. Our leader in the choir and of the seminarist in the chapel teach me how to play piano gracefully and teach me other chords to play. Im very happy to learn new different music day by day. He teaches me to play a guitar also, but only the simple chords I choose to know. Nowadays, I play the piano from time to time. I was working so if I have my free time I play it.

Yeah. I keep hearing horror stories about how they were forced to learn the piano and how the instructors were really strict. One of my friends was forced to play until her finger bled. It's like a punishment! Did you at least learn the basics? When I tried to learn the piano (er, I mean, by myself), I only got up to learning how to read the notes fast. I couldn't get my hands to coordinate, HAHA!

I play the flute. Because I am a majorette, the band instructor made me learn an instrument. I love playing it because it makes such a beautiful sound.

Oh! A flute! While loitering around the music college in my university, I heard a solo flutist performing and fell in love. If only I knew the title of what they were performing. I'd have looked at the net for a sample and bought it. It had a very uplifting sound. Ah, so envious. Haha!

I used to learn bass but I had quit after leaning it for 1 year.....I always had a desire of learning guitar. But didn't get the time coz of classes and tuitions. One day mom got a me a guitar, I spent hours and hours trying to learn it by myself....and now it just feels like another part of my body. I also know to play the piano and drums.

I play acoustic guitar, but just a little. I don't like practicing so often and only play when I feel like it. But I can play some songs with simple chords quite well, and I guess that's as far as I can go. Planning to take some guitar course but school just keeps eating my life and time. I've always wanted to learn piano, a friend of mine taught me one day but it was so difficult I thought it'll take years until I could properly play a song.

I don't play any music instrument. I tried to learn guitar many years ago but I gave up. What I would like to learn now is piano. Maybe one day I will start. But I don't think I can teach myself, it's too complicated for me. So I will have to find some kind of piano teaching classes in my neighborhood. My husband knows how to play drums and guitar. Yes I agree with you, learning needs motivation. HAve a good day.

I don't consider myself a master at any instrument but I can fool around and produce some nice music on several. I play flute better than anything, piano, guitar, ukulele and some percussion. I enjoy music and love playing around with instruments.

I have played the saxaphone. I haven't played for a while but really like it. I am currently learning to play the guitar. I find it really relaxing to learn. I am really enjoying it. My brother is self taught to. He used to do farm work for Dad and write songs in his head on the tractor and then come in and play them for us. He also self learned every type of guitar, piano, harmonica, and even plays music on a saw. We always joke he took all the tallent that was given for the whole family.

I played piano for six years. I was taught by my home piano teacher. The lessons are all classic such as Mozart, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, etc. But I stopped afterwards, because I got bored of her traditional teaching method. They teach you how to play but not the techniques. After 7 years of stopping, I want to play again, but this time, I want to self-study about it. I heard that it is better to learn by yourself using Suzuki Method if you only have experiences in any instruments. I saw lots of good feedbacks about that method but my problem is I can't find the books which had about 12 volumes (I think) available in our country. That is what I want to try out. The next thing I want to learn is violin, but main concern is I am left handed ,don't know if it can't be switched to the violin... I like the melodramatic sounds of the violin...

I could only play a little bit of guitar. I just thought myself to play it. I read song hits, song books that has chords and from there i learned the basics. However i don't play guitar very often, only when i'm in the mood. I love music and still like to learn to play another music instrument like the piano but as of this time i couldn't really find time to study it myself or go to a musical school. Sometimes due to being tired at work i am lazy to learn to play.

At first i learn to play keyboard by myself just following the chords and it took me years to realize... And then follows the guitar where i'm craving to learn and do the exibition moves coz i love to be a rockstar that time.. too bad my hands won't fit when it comes to specials chords or do the medley thing.. but still i manage to play through reading chords..

Starting to learn an instrument is very difficult thing especially for adults - children are better at learning it :) And starting with a violin is even more difficult - it's easier to learn piano first then move on to violin because violin is mostly for those who can recognize notes by ear whereas piano has definite keys for each note. I am basically tone deaf :D I know these because my sister and my brother are both very good at playing their own instruments. My brother is very good with a guitar and with a drum set. My sister is even better with a piano, and taught herself how to play guitar (it was easy when she was already good with the piano). I wanted to learn the violin and tried several sessions - it was difficult since I couldn't even recognize the notes, being tone deaf and all haha Thanks for the response on my discussion!

I play the french horn, the saxophone, and the bassoon. I also play a little of the piano, clarinet, drums, and flute. I learned how to play all but the piano in the band when i was in school. I taught myself later how to play some on the piano. I have always had a love for music so playing the different instruments was easy for me. I think out of them all i like the saxophone best.

I am telling you proudly that I can play no instrument. lol. I just tried in my childhood but seems I didn't have any feeling towards arts thing so up to now, I can play nothing. All I know about guitar is that it's a little bit difficult to learn if you practice less and with no patience. If you really want to learn an instrument, then you should put your spare time into it with great efforts. For me now, maybe no any special instrument fascinates me. I wish to but I just don't have the cell of arts. Hope you can learn and play well.
