We have recently gotten back into fish keeping, hmm I am not sure if that is the proper word for it, but you get the idea. Any way right now we have 4 tanks in our house. The first is a small 2 gallon and in it is my son's blue male Betta fish. The second is my daughters 5 gallon Tetra tank. She has a Black Skirt Tetra, 2 serpae tetras, 1 sunset platy and a neon tetra ( she did have 2, but her Black skirt ate one). The 3rd is a 40-45 gallon corner aquarium and in it we have 5 cichlids. We are new to these fish and they are quite interesting. The last one is just a 10 gallon spare tank. It was bein used for one of the cichlids that had badly nipped fins, but now she is back in the main tank and it is used as a fish jail, lol. When I say fish jail it is because we have in cichlid that was beating up on all the other fish, so until he can be rehomed he isn't allowed in the big tank to terrorize the others, sort of like a time out. So, does anyone keep fish? If so, please tell me about them. I am interested in all kinds of fish.

I have been keeping fish for over 55 years now and intend to keep on keeping them for a long time to come. Right now I am down to only 12 aquariums for a high one time of over 40. If I coud find more room in this house there would be more tanks but I have run out of room. The tanks I have set up presently are a 75, a 55, a 50 , a 40, a 29, four 20s, two 10s AND A 271/2 gallon tank. I belong to two different aquarium clubs (one is s cichlid club) and these two are members of a larger organization that has about 20 aquarium clubs involved in it. I am on the board of directors of both clubs that I belong to and am the chairman of the conservation committee for the North East Council (of aquarium societies). So I guess that you can say that I keep fish as pets.

Wow, you sure have alot of tanks, are they all in one area of your house or spread throughout? I was not even aware that there were aquarium clubs, sounds interesting. What types of fish do you have?

I keep mostly American cichlids (South South and Central American). I do have some killifish and Dario as well as a female endlers live bearer and some pearl gouramis (for a grow out fish for one of the aquariums clubs that i belong to). I like the American cichlids because of the way that they take care of the eggs and young (I have raised broods of Fire mouth cichlids in a large community aquarium, now I have some severum that have a family in that tank).

My partner and I own fish. Together, here at school, we have 4 bettas. We started out with three and I bought another because I thought he was adorable. They are the most expressive little fish ever. And each enjoy their individual tanks. At home I have a twenty gallon tank with a pleco and I don't know how many guppies now. It seems my tank is full of female guppies because they are overflow of my sister's tank.

Bettas are nice fish. They are easy to take care of and pretty colorful. We use to have guppies, they were really active and fun to watch.

My uncle lives with us and he allways used to have a large sweet water fish tank with discus fish (I am not sure if they are called that in English, but they are quite expensive, vertical, flat fish .). The tank was positioned in the living room and I loved looking at it. One day there was a leak and after that he never purchased a new one. Even though I love looking at fishtanks I don't like the maintaining of them and therefor would never purchase them.

Thank you for this information on Discus fish. I did not know this about them, allthough I did know that there were many different colours and patterns in discus fish. My uncle allways had yellow/brownish ones though. He had all kinds of fish from the amazone and as far as I know he bought the colours and breeds that were most likely to live there. But as I am a total fish noob he could have told me anything and I would have bought it . I know sea horses live in salt water but other than that he could have put in anything and make me believe it belongs in the amazone! .

I believe they are also called discus fish here as well. I have never actually seen any in real life (only online or in books), but they look interesting. I don't really mind maintaining the tanks, my boyfriend and kids are happy to help out.

Yes they are called discus here in the United States of America. Their genus name is Discus. There are between two and four different species of Discus (because ichthyologist are not sure how many there are now) and they have been bred into many different colors.

I have always loved to keep fish. I think they are interesting and very relaxing. A small tank with only a few fish is not much work but as you get into the larger tanks the work grows. I would really love a salt water tank but just haven't been able to take that much care of it.

We do not keep any right now. But we have kept most of the fresh water fish at one time or another. We never had any luck with angels. Now we just have gold fish in the outside pond.

My daughter was really wanting angel fish, but her tank was too small. I have never heard of anyone having much luck with them. Goldfish in a pond are really nice as well.

I have never had mollies. What is the difference between a regular molly and a balloon molly?

Balloon mollies are mollies that have been bred to have large stomachs, they are a mutant that some people seem to like but most breeders would have culled .They somewhat resemble fancy goldfish in that the body is not as it should be.There is also a balloon ram which is another mutant that I think should have been culled and not bred.
