Do you have a nickname? If so do you prefer it when people use your nickname or do you like it better when they call you by your full name? I have a nickname and to be honest I do not mind at all whether someone uses my full name or my nickname.

Yes, I have a nickname. My bf calls me Sparkle. Isn't that cute? He is too. It is a private thing between him and i but it is a good one. Then my good friend in Atlanta calls me Lovie. Always has. Not sure why. We have been through alot together. I really don't mind either of them. I actually really like that they feel enough for me to have given me one.

No I don't mind. I have lots of nick names. People always tend to mix my names up. So I react on all the names. No problem. Take care, have a nice evening.

I do not have a nickname as a shortened version of my given name - but I do have a couple "pet" names that have been given to me over the years and when those who call me these names do so I enjoy that they do... it is endearing. I would not want people I barely know or do not feel close to to call me by these names though.

I do not have any pet names now, but I certainly agree that I would not want someone who is not close to me to use a pet name. I guess you could count Garden Gerty or Gerty my nickname. I would answer to it if someone called me by it on the street.

I have a nick name, it's Mom and I think I've earned it so I don't mind who calls me that. Most folks call me by my first name and always have.

Hello UK_Shree , yes I have a nick name. I actually have more than one. Family memners have called me by different nick names and now my b/f gave me a nick name too but only he uses his nick name for me. Close friends call me by part of my first name. When I first meet someone I tell them my fisrt name and if I am comfortable around them I tell them to call me what my friends call me.

That sounds a lot like me actually! My family members call me one thing, my close friends another and my partner has his own unique name that he calls me by! Yes I usually tell people to call me by my most common nickname once I feel we are close enough. Thanks a lot for responding

I have a nickname and it was used alot when I was younger. Over the years though, most people have forgoten about it. Here and there though, I still come across relatives who remember and use it. I dont mind but it's so funny when someone reminds me of it by using it. I actually like it because it brings to mind long lost memories.

Yes I suppose some of us go through phases were people use our nicknames. People at school never really used my nickname much to be honest and now I feel a little strange if I see someone and they use my full name! Thanks a lot for the response!

No, I do not really have a nickname. There is not a shortened derivative that is appropriate for my given name. No one even tries. I have kids who have nicknames, and mostly like them.

I suppose it is much easier to have nicknames of names which are quite long or have a number of syllables which can then be shortened. Sometimes nicknames are not even related to someone's original name however. How about pet names?

I don't really mind if someone uses my nickname. It is actually part of my username here on mylot. Ambie is my nickname. It has been since I was very little. My parents, grandparents...they all use it affectionately. But my sister does have another nickname for me. She sometimes calls me Inki. I called her Minki, and I guess she decided I needed a new nickname too, so she started calling me Inki.

Inki and Minki is really quite cute! Thanks for responding AmbiePam!

I prefer to use my full given name. Even though I don't think it suits me, it's a pretty one. I never understood nicknames. A woman called Elizabeth or a man called Lawrence have lovely names and I could never understand why they would shorten them to Liz or Larry.
@UK_Shree (3603)
28 Apr 09
Yes there are certain names that have common shorter versions. Liz and Larry do sound awful don't they. Lawrence is lovely, as is Elizabeth but I do think the latter is a mouthful to say!

I have a few nicknames that were given to me over the years, and usually people call me by my nickname. I much prefer it over my real name. Sometimes when I introduce myself to people for the first time, I give them my nickname instead of my real name, and only give them my real name once I've gotten to know them better.

i don't mind being called by my double name just don't like to be called martha by itself. it's just me, i guess.

Jojo does sound pretty cool actually - rather trendy in fact. I bet you were part of the 'cool' group at school Do you just have a particular dislike for your actual name? I don't mind people using my real name but so few people can actually pronounce it correctly!

I am assuming that you belong to an ethnic origin as I have never heard of nicknames which are similar to the ones that you have described? Do they have any special meanings? It would be really interesting to know. Thanks for responding.

I used to have the nickname 'Macgyver' when I was a teen and I did not mind being called it. I have not been called it in a long time but it was fun when I was. MacGyver was one of my favorites shows when I was younger
