I am quite bothered as of now because I am experiencing backache this past few days while staying in front of computer. Before, I cannot feel this. It is ok with me to stay even whole day in front of the computer before. But as of now, I quite feel pain in back.Well, I am planning to stay on my online job up to the end of May only. It is because I will start teaching this coming June.I cannot stop as of now in my online work because I need to save money for our expenses in the house. It is quite hard to find a part time job outside. Aside from that, I also need to spend much on the requirements if I have to work outside. So, I think, it is more practical to do online job rather than working outside. The only complain I have now is my back because it is quite aching. How about you? Are you experiencing same thing with me? How do you cope with backache?

I have sat a computer like 8 hours a day everyday for about 11 years. At one point back ache and neck ache were the order of the day for me. At one point though, I attended a lecture on stress and it was pointed out that if you do a job like that, you need to change your computer chair from time to time, and more importantly, take frequent breaks, do stretches and do a lot of physical exercise. I have done that over the years and I have managed somehow.
You might want to try that.

"Ergonomics" is one of the major things to consider working in front of you computer. Being aware of the effects of long hours of working without proper ergonomics will cause some headaches, backaches and sometimes even worst. If I were you, I'll invest on a very comfy chair with arm rest on it, a keyboard with a soft palmrest and an environment that provides calm to your eyes like plants or something like that.
just my 2 cents.

annierose, I experience more pain in my arm than in my back. I just stop working when the pain comes and use my arm as little as possible. My back does hurt after especially long hours in front of my computer. I take the same measure for that problem but I usually add a pain reliever too. Listening to our bodies will help us avoid much injury.

yeah of course..everybody feels backache on their back if stay longer in the computer..the good thing to do here is to prepare a medicine that will cease the pain in your back or at times..you may take your rest by watching sceneray over the windows..it's not good to sit infront of your computer whole day long..

Well it depends how much time i spend in front of the computer......if i am free and have no work then i spend round about 7hrs a day......and yes it does give me a headache sometimes.....well more than the head its the eyes that get effected.....so i take regular breaks in between and wash my eyes......i also have spectacles with anti glare coating which prevents my eyes getting damaged by looking at the monitor constantly.....i also sometimes put some rose water in my eyes before i go to sleep it really soothes your eyes if they are burning....I usually sit on chairs with backrest....so it really does not matter....well all i would suggest is don't sit at a stretch, give yourself regular breaks and keep flexing your muscles......you can do that by getting up....walking a bit and some simple stretching should help you....it wont give you instant relief, but if you make it a habit you will definitely be fine.......hope this works for you !!!!
Have a nice day !!!!

Sometimes I do get backache while spending lots of time in the front of the computer and sometimes I get neck pain. I am working as a medical transcription and it is normal for me to spend lots of time typing in the front of the computer. I think I have to carry on with my life even if I have back ache. I most times put good oil in my back for my back pain and neck pain when I have them. Sometimes I take good break in the between and come back and start fresh in the front of the computer.

I sit in front of my computer for up to anything between 14 and 17 hours almost everyday, except for the times I have to shower, take my meals or just go downstairs for an hour's walk. Despite sitting so long, I seldom get backaches. I guess I am used to it already, but I think it has a lot to do with the type of chair I sit on and the posture that I maintain sitting for long hours. I think if you sit back and relax, and not slouch, you will maintain a better upright sitting position and that will not strain your back so much. Also, every now and then, get up from your seat and take a walk around the home or garden to circulate the blood in your body, and also don't always stare into the screen or you will feel the strain on your eyes from all that staring. If I do get backaches, I will get someone to massage my back for me, and also apply some ointment on my back for muscular aches. That will usually help.

Hi there, Annie, and thank you for your vote. So how is your aching back now? Has it improved? One thing I forgot to add is you can also apply some heat therapy by placing a hotpac on your back while you sit and work in front of your computer. It is quite soothing and gives you almost instant relieve from any backaches. A couple of weeks ago, I had bad backache on my lower back because of some heavy lifting, and I applied both ointment rub as well as hotpac treatment for several days, and they worked very well for me. The pain was gone after a few days.

My back and my neck.
Especially my neck. But my back is a problem. Because of my back problems I cannot go back to the work I have studied for.
Sitting behind the computer I have to have a good chair and the distance from the keyboard must not be to far away.
Lot's of people have back problems.
Best thing to do is exercise.
Take care, have a nice evening.

The only time that I get backache is when I am sitting in my bed with my laptop on my knee, which I can never get a comfy backrest on my bed, I try resting against the wall with my pillows but they move and I get uncomfortably. If I am sitting in a proper computer chair or on the sofa then I do not have these problems. So when my back aches, I just changed to a different location and this solves it.

I always have sore back no matter what I am doing, I gradually it is a serious problem but not just back pain. I don't know what it is, I'm just hoping I work out, move more will make it better because I don't want to spend big bucks on seeing the doctor. I do have sore back after a long time sitting in front of the computer so I usually use it for a while then move, do other stuff then go back for a while and so on. It won't make the back as stiff.

i have suffered with a bad back for years,so i decided to go to the drs,who sent me for an xray. The only reason i went to the drs is that my back pain was getting worse and i needed stronger pain killers. When my pc went down so i didnt go on it for a few nights my back seemed better,so i decided that it was me sitting on the pc,however i went to the doctor and he explained i had a twisted spine. Now what i do is an hour at the pc then walk around the house doing a bit of house work, then returning to he pc inbetween that way you are not in the same position for too long.Failing that a hot bath and no pc.

Yes i got backache very often. I sat in front of the computer like 8 hours a day for nearly 3 years now and the only thing that keeps me bother is the backache that maybe the result of long sitting in front of the computer. Actually i noticed the difference that i more slouch this days than before- i mean always have wrong posture in sitting. That's maybe the cause of backache. Well i am also bothered that's why i am trying hard to correct myself and make a habit to have a break and do stretching at time interval so i won't feel backache afterwards. Sometimes i just lay straight my back on the bed to relax whenever i feel tired and feel back pains.
Happy mylotting!

this is a common question for using computer more time.really hard to your body,so i think some simple exercise maybe helpful.
sometimes my neck feel uncomfortable when i spend more time infront of my laptop.so i used to have some little action.stand or walk outside for a while, only this simple motion can help your body feel better.that`s east to do.
happy mylot;0 also don`t forget your health.

In the end i'll still complete my earn money sites or something like that and i'll end the day with such an aching back and shoulders..And when i hit the bed, gosh, it feels so good...haha..Let's not stay for too long on the compute alright? Take breaks or something. =] take care.

Hi,Ana
You definitely need more rest.As you sit before the computer all day long for many days,it is normal to feel backache.Well,I know you need to do your online job. However, you still can move your head for sometime, this will help I think.Well, when I was in my high school and usually spent many hours on the computer,I felt this way sometimes.Hope you will feel better.
Have a nice day!

I think it's normal... Because I used to experience it too when I was a chat addict...lol! All you have to do is to have some body movements like standing in front of your computer and stretch your arms and the rest of your body. Relax your self for a while until you feel at ease... It can help, try it! :)
