Concealed Hanguns on College Campuses

There is legislation in the works in my great state of Texas (and also in a few other states I believe) that will allow people who have concealed weapons permits to carry their guns onto college campuses. College campuses are currently one of the only locations in concealed carry states where licensed holders are not allowed to have guns, and the consequences of this are clear: Virginia Tech, NIU, the UT Tower, and more. Several people who were lucky enough to live through those terrible shooting assert that if they would have been allowed to carry a weapon, they could have stopped the gunmen before so many people were killed.
College campuses are not safe places. I live on campus at a school where it is not safe to walk alone outside after dark because we are in such a bad part of town. I know for a fact that I would feel much safer if I was allowed to have a gun on me.
For those of you who would object, consider two things: This law will only apply to those students who have concealed handgun licenses, meaning that they are over 21 years old, they have had training, and they went through background checks, fingerprinting, and all sorts of precautionary measures. Also, the law would allow schools to decide whether or not the guns are allowed in the dormitories, so a school could keep guns out of the dorms if they chose to.
I personally think this is a very important piece of legislation and something that would prevent future school massacres. If you live in Texas or if your state has legislation like this in the making, I encourage you to call your legislators and urge them to support it. It is time that college students are no longer sitting ducks for madmen and maniacs.

I agree with you completely. Students are the most vulnerable among us and university campuses are too large for the campus police to be able to ensure the safety of the student body. I haven't heard anything here in Florida but I'm certainly going to check it out and voice my support for similar legislation.
