Difference of Ophthalmologist and Optometrist?

Can someone explain to me what's the great difference of an optometrist and an ophthalmologist? I know that they both handle eye care, but how are they different from each other?

An optometrist is a licensed health care professional, while an ophthalmologist is a doctor of optometry. In the end, it all comes down to schooling.
