I was reading about the Swine Flu epidemic & how it is really bad in Mexico. Does anyone every worry it could be like The Black Plague? And if it could be the plague that wipes out 1/3 of the world like the Bible speaks of or was it the Black Plague that the Bible spoke about. Please give your input mylot friends.

Well right now I guess the flu is a little bit frightening but with the qway each government is handling the situation it seems that we could contain the virus from spreading further. The plagues of before was easily spread is because people were not that organized in information dissemination and there was no proper hygiene that is why they spread easily. Right now the world is coordinating with one another and the research of this kind of disease is quite detected at an early stage and the measures are being done to quarantine is quite stricter that it was before. If this virus is able to escape and is able to do the same as before then that is to be proven in time.

Yes during the Roman Empire era the cities have develop this sewage and water distribution system. But during those times their sewage system was not as hygienic as the sewage system that we have.

I am worried. I don't know if it is going to get that bad, but it is scary. I hope they get a handle on it soon.

I know what you mean, about getting a handle on the problem soon. It just makes me stop & think about everything you see happening in the world today.

Yes I am very concerned, because I was on NBC's website they have some really good videos about everything and as the government was declaring that they were calling this a nationwide health emergency in one sentence, then would say but there is NO REASON to panic or to become alarmed in the next sentence that means this is a lot worse then they are going to tell us. There was a doctor doing an interview yesterday and he said this is a strain they don't understand I think the government is more concerned then they are telling us.

Me too & they hide secrets about everything. I had seen a documentary when the government knew about 911 months before it occurred & ignored the warnings.

I think we have good technology that will prevent anything massively destructive to occur. I think AIDS is more comparable to the black plague in the Bible than the swine flu. Hopefully they will find a cure and a way to stop it from coming back. They may have already found the source in Mexico.

I saw on the history channel it has been a while ago. That they did some investigations on the mummies & test & they said a form of AIDS was found on some mummies of ancient Egypt.

Yes, Swine Flu is one of the biggest concerns now. But it doesn't look like it would be able to cause such a big impact as wiping out 1/3 of the world population. The Govts of various countries and the Health Organizations will definitely prevent it from spreading so wide or may be even they find a cure for the same. The same thing happened with Bird Flu and AIDS but they have been controlled. The people coming from US are already being examined for Swine Flu at all the airports here in India. Lets hope for the best!!

Conditions in the time of the black plague were abominable, hygeine and nutrition wise. The theory about why there are more deaths in Mexico is nutritional and hygiene based. Now that doesn't mean I don't worry!

The health classes that I took when I took some college classes in 2005 & 2006. These classes (which I already did everyday) said the main thing about keeping down germs is to wash your hands. I wash my hands all the time. I get onto my grandson about washing his hands. I told him you wash your hands every time you go to the bathroom no excuses and every time you get ready to eat. Nothing goes in my mouth without me washing my hands. And I never forget to wash my hands after I use the bathroom & touch almost anything. I have become a little Monkish, LOL. I wash my shopping buggy down too, LOL!!! And do not ever, ever eat unwashed fruit or veggies. I get onto my grandson about that one too, LOL!!!

Yeah I think its a bad thing but I'm not scared. Rather I'm a bit pissed that humans are getting it and the pigs are getting off Scott free. I saw some pigs on TV and they had really been in the $hit, because their faces were black. Its not fair that they can root around in it like that, and us people are getting sick.

I am not worried about the swine flu virus. Here in India the government is taking steps to isolate people with swine flu. Here because the climate is hot and humid it is difficult for the virus to spread.Yes it is a disease that cannot be cured and has claimed lives in the us.Here screening goes on in the airport to check people with swine flu.

Hey cj! I think that would be just going a little bit too far! The Swine Flu is a bad strain of the virus, but I don't think that it could be compared to the Black Plague! At least I haven't heard anyone mention the two of them in the same sentence, have you? It does seem to extremely contagious, but then again so is any type of the flu! I am concerned most definitely, but until we get more information on it I don't think that we should completely panic yet!

I am very much worried about this swine flu. is that going to spread to India too? I saw some pics in today's news paper with peopl with masks on their faces. I am so afraid, because i have low immunity. How does a person catches swine flu? Will taking anti-biotic in advance help to protect from swine flu. please suggest.

As far as I know, antibiotics are for bacterial infections and the flu is viral so they probably wouldn't help. But I am not a doctor. Good ways to avoid colds and flu are to wash your hands often, try to keep your hands away from your nose/mouth/eyes; and if you get sick cover your nose and mouth when you cough and sneeze. Again, I am not a doctor.

I am a bit worried about this new flu outbreak. As WHO said, it could become a pandemic if it was not contained and controlled immediately. I also think the spreading of this virus can be avoided. People just need to be more cautious, like they need to wash hands regularly and stay at home if they have any kind of flu just to be on the safe side.

people are getting worried about the swine flu. the philippines had already closed the getting of meats in the us because the government is afraid that disaster will arrive. actually they are already investigating about the pigs that are suspected to have swine flu here in the country but the found out that it is not. they distribute fast injections for the pigs and other medicines so that pigs will not be affected with this.

My question is...why are they afraid of meat from US when 1. The flu started in mexico. Did they also stop meat from there? 2. You can not get it from eating pork.

There have been alot of potential pandemics over the last few years. Last year it was the Bird flu this year the swine flu. I remember the last episode of swine flu years ago. Most flu is more prevelent in the winter when every one huddles up in close quarters. I don't plan on traveling to Mexico in the next few months but I don't think fear and panic is helping the situation either. Trying to avoid large crowds indoors might be appropriate if it gets worse. Eat healthy drink plenty of fluids get enought sleep and everything will be OK I think

I am honestly not worried. I think taking precautions (but not overdoing it)is really all a person can do. I know there are a lot of people who don't agree with me. It's weird because with most things I am a natural worrier, but this is one thing that I am not real worried about.

I was listening to CNN news the other day and it certianly sounds like a pandemic is expected. I hear so far there are no cases in colorado so im not worried yet. They made it sound really dangerous.

I do not think that it would be anything comparable with the black plague. Even without any additional scientific/medical knowledge, the Plague would have claimed only a fraction of the people it did with the proper sanitation procedures that we use today. I worry for the population of the lesser developed nations as they will bear the brunt of this outbreak as they are less equipped to deal with it.

I'm really worried. I actually know someone who has it. in Canada. and their sister is going to school, and we go to school together =\ I'm pretty much scared. and also, apparently it's going around in Texas too, and I have a friend who is visiting Texas right now who also goes to my school. and there's a school not far from here, in the town where my dad works, where there are 20+ cases of it. there are so many chances of me getting it, I'm terrified. because, since it's fatal and there is no cure, I could easily die. the good thing is that I'm pretty much immune to everything xD its only cause I don't get my flu shots anymore :) I don't really find much point .. especially since it's in needle form. when they give me the nose strips and candy that is used in the US for flu shots, then I will start getting/taking it again. but until then ... IM THE ONLY IMMMMUNE ONE ;D. but anyways. I don't think that it could be like the black plague. well.. I mean, it could. but that's toooo scary to think about O_O it shouldn't be that bad, I mean its just a sickness. and its only one. if other things start to happen, then perhaps thats a good theory. :) well, have a nice day. peace !

I am not that worried at this time. The reports that I hear in the U.S. are that swine is not as dangerous as other flu types going around. I am concerned, however, about the possibility of the virus mutating in the future and coming back in the mutated state.
