In the last five years the prices of all common needed materials has been doubled or even more. They don't give our farmers half of the price for their corp of as compared to the prices of imports from the other countries.

As a fledgling farmer myself, I am slowly becomming more aware how difficult this country makes it on our small farms. One thing I fear right now is this: http://www.govtrack.us/congress/billtext.xpd?bill=h111-875 H.R. 875, The Food Safety Modernization Act of 2009 It seems they try every year to make it harder and harder for a person to be self sufficiant and it seems as if it may not be entirely an accident. A dependant people are an easily controllable people. The whole reason I took up farming was not to make a lot of money, but to simply be self sufficiant and to perhaps provide a low cost alternative source of food, localy grown, fresh food. Now I may be considered a criminal should this act pass because I will not be using pesticides, paying exuberant licencing fee's, submitting to rigorous needless inspections and electronicliy tagging any animals I may raise. The problems this act uses as an excuse originated from large corperations and processing plants, not small local family farms, yet it is those same small family farms this bill is going to kill. I also can't help but notice the bill is sponored by a congresswoman who has recieved over $180,000 in contributions from big food conglomerates and that her husband runs a consulting firm with Monsanto as one of his main clients...... things that mkae you go "hmmmmm"

yes, I am quite aware of the facts and I also know that this is recession time and some greedy businessmen are intentionally keeping the price high so that they can get more money in their pocket and to make matter worse, Govt, didn't do anytihng to stop them. My mum says that this is the case with every congress Govt. Everytime they come in power, they will cause some thing to make the price go high!

I think their symbol "the hand" is to crush the common people and make lot of money for your self.

It's much the same here. I wonder why, with all this economic trouble, countries don't stop importing things and start supporting their own farmers and craftsmen. That is a lovely little bird in your avatar. What kind is it?

Our sparrows here in the U.S. not natural to the country--the English brought them over when they colonized this country. They are rather dull colored, not like yours, but they are beautiful to me and their song is lovely. They also steal food from other birds and steal nests, killing other birds' babies. That's the way of nature, I guess. Thank you for telling me about your type of sparrow.

The farmers in this country are the most important producers we have and they get less than any ot6hers. The cost to farm has gone out of sight in the past few years. Most farmers owe more than they will ever be able to pay. I grew up on a farm and when I was a kid you could take a team of mules and a few plow tools for them to pull and you could feed your family, the mules and any other animals you raised, plus sell enough stuff on the market to get what little money you needed. Now if you don't have equipment worth half a million, or more, and farming at least 1,000 acres you can't even pay your operating costs much less see any profit. This puts the American people in a very dangerous position. A bad crash would put most of the farmers out of business and what would we do for food them. Obama should be giving the farmers a few billion instead of the stupid banks. You won't hear one word on the national news about farmers being forced out of business though. Thanks God most of the farmers are dealing with local banks that didn't try to scam the world like the investment banks did. Art
