Well i always get excited and motivated with token of appreciation. In my projects, we usually get the mail of appreciation on completing the task. So its important.

Every once in a while he will say good job to me, I don't see him that often once a week at the most. If I am where I am supposed to be with productivity and numbers in my department then he says nothing, I have to really go out of my way or do something really spectacular to get his attention.
