I read this quote in a book I'm currently reading, and it really struck a cord:
"If you love where you are in your life, it's a waste of time to hate where you've been. If you go on a journey and end up rolling down a mountain, falling off a ravine, being dragged by a swift-moving stream, get dumped off a water fall, and wake up to find yourself in a beautiful valley filled with warm sun, nurturing pools, abundant fruit and adoring friends-why waste time cursing the trip that brought you to Paradise?"
I have always believed this to be true. You cannot be ashamed of your past, for it brought you to where you are now, and made you who you are.
I just felt the need to share this quote. Do you have an inspirational quote that means something to you?

Cool quote! Sounds like Dr. Laura, am I right?
I'm a Christian and as such I truly believe that God can use all the junk in our lives to fine tune us for service to Him. This may not be exactly what your quote says but it is similar in that we needn't get stuck in the past when we can see where it has brought us!
Thanks, kats!

Yes it is Dr. Laura. I'm reading one of her books right now, Bad Childhood Good Life. So far it has been pretty helpful.

I love her! I haven't listened to her in a long time as I can't pick her up anymore on the radio around here. I have seen her on facebook and she has a special book honoring moms and stay at home moms coming out, as well as a live- feed to a select bunch of movie theaters with a salute to mom's show!
I have read "The Proper Care and Feeding of a husband". It is excellent!!

Dr. Laura is new to me but you have both got me interested (though I have no husband to feed). Sounds like I will be looking into it further.

Great quote!
I don't want to spoil it by adding another right now but it sums it up so well. Whatever we say about our past, nothing will alter it so no point in wishing we had done it differently. Better to concentrate on now!

That's an incredibly quote and so true. The past should be something that makes you stronger rather than ruins your future.
I have to admit the quote that inspired me is not as poetic of philosophical but it's this:
'I've got better things to do in life than focus on becoming Barbie'
Pretty self-explanitory. I found it on a site that degraded bigger women... until this gem came along. You should never let people drag you down for who you are - whether you're a big girl or too small, or too goth or too girly, whatever race/sexuality/gender you are. Be happy to be who you want to be. Best quote in the world for me =P
Happy mylotting

am ar an internet cafe so not time to really respond as i would like to. This is so beautiful and I can see where it helps you in seeing where you are in this stage of your young life.
For me - as a Christian i would say that the beautiful part will be heaven. although my life is very good right now - despite my boss, I give thanks to even wake up in the mornings. Blessings dear friend

That is a great quote. I love quotes that make you think & to use it into your own life. One of my favorites I heard when we were taking fostering classes is: 'Don't Let The Past Dictate Your Future!' That quote hit me like a ton of bricks & I thought of it for many weeks after I heard it. No matter what your past was like you can predict how your future will be. You can dwell on the bad or the rough times or you can move on & learn from them & be a better person for it. I've never dwelled on the past but going through some hard times things from my past came out of nowhere that I had pushed into my sub-conscience. I got through all that & moved on.

Very inspiring, why curse the past if it's the reason of our success.. I just wanna share this verse " Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways acknowledge Him, He will make your path straight." Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV)...
This inspires me that everything i must do, I will put God first in everything. Always hold on to the promise that He will crown our efforts with success...
God bless

Oh wow, that's a good one. It really make sense. Yup, it's really important that we do not regret everthing that has happened in our lives, eventhough some are not that good at all. I personally learned a lot more from the "not-so-good" part of my life and I could say that I am a better person compare to what I was before.
One of the quotes I live by is a quote by Abraham Lincoln, he said, "And in the end, it's not the years in your life that count. It's the life in your years."
By the way, may I know the title of that book katsmeow? Thank you!

That's a great quote! So many people do waste time ponding about their regrets in life not where they are going.
I don't really have any inspirational quote to share. But thanks for sharing this quote the first line is definatly a keeper.

Maybe some of us had a shameful past. Some of us hated our past
mistake and failures. It's normal. Because we are humans and emotion
got the better out of us. I love the quote, it makes me cherish more
my not so honorable past. To value the memories I left behind.

Hi, for me there are so many inspirational quete or statement for me like:
- "just do it", for me, these mean that when i have to face something difficult, i will just do the best as i can to overcome the problem.
- "impossible is nothing", these words have give a lot of spirit to learn and learn the things that i was not really good for.
- "money is everything, but everything needs money", these words make me to work hard everyday. Eventhough money is not all my life, but i am sure i really need money for living and i should earn more and more money everyday.

I heard this years ago, and it always stuck in my mind. "When you have walked in the light as far as you can go and your next step is into the darkness, one of two things will happen. You will either step on solid ground or you will learn to fly."
I actually have a notebook that I have kept sayings, quotes, etc in since 1996. It is full of some really great inspirational things. I call it my "inspiration notebook". I had it by my side when I saw your discussion tonight. So, I have many more quotes as well, but the one above is one of my absolute favorites.

Yes, I find Kats your epressions are something meaningful. But it may be a matter of chance or luck to find oneself at a better place after a great fall!
Always I believe that success in any form in life is a continuous journey, not a destination! It is the winner, who never quits and it is the quitter who never wins! Only our attitudes lead us to real success!
Thanks for this nice posting and have a good day!
