LOL... Ironic statement. People use that statement because when a baby finally goes to sleep, they sleep very peaceful and wake up refreshed. They get all their sleep stages in, in those few hours that they do sleep.

Do they wake up every two hours? Well, I don't know that. I thought that once they will sleep, they remain sleeping for 8-9 hours in a day. The only time they wake up is when they are hungry and needs to be fed!
may be they are sleeping because they were struggling in mother's stomach for 9 or so monthe and they are tired of struggling!

I have often asked the same question..I was once told by a friend of mine that thinks he knows all the answers that it has to do with how well they sleep not how long they sleep. Supposedly once a baby is asleep they are out and hear nothing..but I beg to differ. I always remember saying when my kids were babies "Shhh..or you'll wake the baby" so I am not sure why everyone uses that saying.

Whoever really believe that have NOT met my baby. She wakes up a zillion times a night, its driving me nuts! On a 'good' night she will wake up only 8 times. On a bad night (like 2 days ago..) she was up the WHOLE night. Honestly! If she slept a total of 30 minutes that night its a lot. But 'they' say it will pass...
