How many of you own your own businesses? Are they profitable? How'd you start?

My husband and I own our own construction business. He frames houses. I think if you start a service type business you can make money right away. But if you start a retail business it can take up to 3 years to actually earn a profit. Some people start a business thinking they will make some quick money but then end up having to close up shop because they can't pay thier bills. Anyone thinking of opening a retail establishment should really think hard about it first and make sure they can live without income for a while from thier business.

Yes, a jewelry store for 3 years now and things have been really slow because of this gas thing! I started with buying one ring at a time.

I have a small photo business and I was able to do it because I retired and did not want to sit around. It provides me with a small income that allows me to buy my toys and a few extra tings. I am not working at it as hard as I could if I had to make a living at it but then I might not enjoy it as much as I do. If you can make money doing something you love to do you are trully blessed.

I am trying to find my niche. The internet has been the grounds for many a persons dreams of running a home based buisness. Nowadays it is all about finding the right angle.
