I am currently unemployed and I have to cut back on a few of my luxuries. I have a cellphone and a landline phone. If it comes to choosing between the two, which one would you let go your cellphone or your land line phone? I am debating between the two. However I don't get many calls on neither.

Hi Chevee, If you go out a lot, the it is a good idea to keep the cell phone rather then the lad line but if not then landline is better and cheaper, we have a landline, my husband got cellphone and I have a cellphone but I don't really use it only keep it on me when I go out just in case. Hugs. Tamara

it will boil down to which one is of better use to you and which one will ease the financial burden more. in cases of emergency or someone trying to reach you... which one would they likely use? if you plan to be out of the house often, a cellphone would be handy... so i'd say you can let go of the landline. in my case, should i need to cut down on one of them (my cellphone and my landline), i couldn't. they are both tied in a contract at the moment, and both are very important to me. my landline is bundled with my internet while my cellphone is a postpaid account where i keep all my contacts. since i move a lot, i would need my cellphone. and since i do most of my work with the internet, i need my landline (at least for the moment, until i get other options like wi-fi or somethhing).

That would be hard for me to pick between the two. I don't use either that much. My cell phone only family have the number and I have text also so my daughter and I text sometimes. I guess the only reason I would want to keep my home phone is for people who I don't want to give my cell number too and also my son's best friend of about 25 years lives in Norway and he calls him ever so often and wouldn't be able to on the cell. I guess I would give up my cell as long as the rest of my family could keep their cell phones.

It is a hard decision for me to make too. I am single and I travel alone, that is why I use my cell for emergencies. I have had the same home phone nuber from the beginning. Tough decision.

Poor Chevee! What a lousy position to be in! I think I'd choose the cell phone, just because of its portability. I don't have to be home to get a call. Now if we can just arrange for those calls be from prospective employers!

Chevee- When faced with this decision I cut the landline. I didn't use it as much as my cell anyhow, and my cell is portable! I know a lot of cable companies run specials where your bill is less if you have all three services with them, but I just couldn't do it at their price. We have two cells, so our talk to each other is free, and we have a fairly good package that I can get all of my calling done without extra fees. Namaste-Anora

I cut of my land line 2 years ago. The only calls I got were from salesmen. All of my family has cell phones and I like having mine with me when I travel. The other benifit is that I do not have to worry about the long distance bill. Being unemployed you may want your phone wiht you all the time just incase a potential employer calls, I would keep the cell.

I think I would keep the cellphone, simply because you can take it wherever you go. It is more useful. It can also make you feel tied up more as well. I have a tracfone, and now that I supervise staff, it is like an electronic leash, people always thinking I am easily accessible to them. On the other hand, it is quite useful for some things.

I can see your point thanks. On my cell I have the lowest plan they have if I go over the minutes then I will have to pay more.

I would keep the land line. That's how I can keep my internet access anyway. And cell phone aren't as reliable to me.

If your cell phone works in your house then I'd keep it and give up the landline because you can take your cell phone with you anywhere you go and what if you break down somewhere? You'll need to call someone. As for the landline, you can't take it with you but outside but not far from the base. So I'd give up the landline phone.

Hey chevee! I kind of have the same problem. I use my landline more than my cellphone. I can tell you of one way to be able to keep both of them. Trac Phone has a pay as you go phone where you only put as much money on it as you want to. And there is no contracts. I am going to get it when I finish with my Boost Mobile phone. The phones themselves are really cheap too. And you can roll over the minutes if you don't use them. That way you can have a cellphone for emergencies without a plan.

I had to make this choice before and I now only have a cellphone. I made my choice because most of my calls are long distance. My long distance calls were costing me more then paying a monthly cellphone fee. It works out to be cheaper this way, for me. If you are always home or home more often then you are out, I'd say keep the land line and get rid of the cellphone. This also depends on your long distance calling.

I would let go of our landline phone. I love my cellphone so much that i can't trade it for anything. The problem is, our DSL connection is connected to our phone. Without it, our DSL won't work. It is bundled on our phone bill. But i guess i can select another internet provider. I think the mobile phone is very important in a sense that i can do many things with it. I can even go online. It works like a landline phone, only better.

Hey, Well it all depends on how much you talk on your phone. If you don't really call many people and they don't call you, their is no reason to have a land line phone. That is what I would do anyway, cut my land line phone. Make sure you have a good day, Happy Lotting!!

Do you have a contract on your cell phone? I would probably chose to keep my cell phone, when I go out I tend to stay out for a long time and want to be able to keep in touch with Frank and Esme.

I would keep the land line as moblies are usually more expensive. I'd be tempted to transfer your mobile to Pay as you Go so that you can still use it in emergecies.

Well since you are cutting back because of finances then the answer should be simple, which one cost the less each month?? My landline is only 40.00 a month and that includes my DSL for internet, and my cell phone bill is 69.99 and that is the cheapest package they had. So which ever one is the cheapest is the one to keep!!!

If given one choice, i would let go of the landline phone.. why did i say that? because i can't bring it to my office or to places i would go.. while the mobile phone is very handy and easy to use. i can bring it anywhere, everywhere!

Depends. I'd change to a pay-as-you-go cell service and get rid of the land line and the monthly charges. What did you do?
