I'm happy. I eat. I'm depressed, I eat. I'm bored, I eat. What exactly is emotional eating? Eating when you are at the height of certain emotion is not good. Either you don't have appetite , eat less and starve yourself or seek cpomfort in food, eat more, and be overweight. I have even read an article that says do not eat when you are sad or angry because you will have digestion problems. Can anybody shed light to this?

I cant eat anything when I'm sad or angry~mostly I eat when I feel empty~not the my stomach but the heart.
And if I'm happy,I may feel full enough without eating anything~
Well ,it seems that emotional eating is not my cup of tea.
But in fact, to eat when you are sad or angry is bad for your health.and to be sad or angry, these kind of emotions are also bad for health.

When I am angry or sad I don't eat. I don't want to eat when I am sad and I don't eat on purpose when I angry to show other people how angry I am so it is good in both cases. I eat when I am happy and that I have to control.

It probably is related to stress and how it affects the digestion of food. We all know that stress is the #1 factor in causing illness, from cancer to colds. I imagine stress (caused from heightened emotions) can also cause digestive distress and upset.

Girl I am eating right now! A big bowl of cereal. I noticed since the recession started and I keep hearing all of this bad news in the media I have been eating like a fool. I am scared out of my mind and the only way I can temporarily calm myself down is to eat. I'm trying to stop but its hard right now. It is hurting me because my feet are starting to swell with fluid. My stomach is starting to hurt when I eat a certain amount. This is different than being full. Heart problems run in my family and I'm in my 30's; so I really do need to stop before something bad happens. I really enjoy food. I have been emotionally eating since I was a child, but it is time I start making some changes in my life.

There are time that I really feel that I eat too much like when I feel so happy , bored and I feel so in love. I eat continuously every time I feel that kind of emotion but when I feel stress and I feel so depress, or I feel sad its hard for me to eat even it is just a bite to the food. That's why I think being sad and lonely or depress can help to lost weight. The best thing that I like when I stressed is I can lost weight so fast.

Personally i both have that habit. Most of the time when i am sad and depressed i tend not to eat like no appetite at all, feeling like giving up and no reason to live but well as a human being we can't really survive and feel sick after few days so its like one day i wake up and eat a lot which cause me to gain weight. Now as for being happy, bored or whatever emotion even being sad and depressed nowadays i have then the urge to eat like it helps me make feel relief. However i know its not a good habit as i am gaining weight. I am trying to change that habit and control myself because i am starting to get conscious of my weight.

Because you put your emotional eating as a way of .so,whatis you emotional behavior when you choose to eat. To change all this, you need to the health of other new ways to replace your current methods. In this way, you will not be for the health and weight loss and distress.

The only emotional eating that I do is eat when I am bored as I have nothing else better to do. I do not eat due to happiness or sadness or anything, especially when I am sad I barely eat at all, because this specific emotion gives me a sickening feeling in my stomach.
I think that the best thing to do when emotional is to eat as normal, because if you are constantly emotional eating whether it is undereating or overeating they both have negative effects on your health, therefore digestive problems could come into this.

I tend to over eat. The only time I can't eat is when im upset. I find it difficult to eat when I am upset. Other times though yeah we will see me eat alot. I eat even when im not hungry but just craving something. Its annoying.

I'm not an emotional eater, I don't particularly go eat when I feel emotional. I only eat when I want and sometimes when I crave for some food, I do eat. When I feel unhappy, I don't feel like eating at all, when I am happy, I feel happier eating.

I love to eat- all day- I have learned to deal with it in this way:
I read a lot of books on health and nutrition to help me see my health as something important. When I saw and learned about what happens to us after years of junk, junk food no longer sounds as good as it once did. And, anytime someone offers me something, i think about what I know. That doesn't mean I don't have a cookie now and then, but I won't eat 3 or 4 of them now either.
Also, since I am a "grazer' I started packing healthy snacks that I can munch on for a while- carrot sticks, wheat thins, grapes, etc. I can munch on a baggie of them for an hour.
I also decided that I have to stay active, so I play sports with my kids, joined an adult softball team, take kickboxing and swin at our fitness center.

I relate to your sentiments. I tend to be an emotional eater and I learnt to deal with it by identifying my feelings and where they come from so that I can deal with whatever is going on before heading to the refrigerator. Sometimes it works and at other times it doesn't although over the years I have educated myself not to deal with my ups and downs with food. I usually know when I'm about to over eat and that is when I stop and consider why I am about to do it and it works most of the time. There is a book by Susie Orbach titled "Fat is a feminist issue" which deals with women and compulsive eating; it was first published in 1978 and I found it quite enlightening on the subject.

Sometimes when Im not in good mood I dont feel like eating well. I eat only little and even how good the food or tasteful I still dont have the appetite for eating because of the depression that I feel.

You should always make eating as mondane as possible. Eat at regular times. Don´t eat food that you love all the time. You don´t need to eat food that you hate either. Most of the time eat food healthy so and so food.
Emotional Eating is self medication to problem that never quires the couse of it.
