For those who may not remember...just prior to the cross-over introduction of The Girl From U.N.C.L.E., (Sept. 13/66) the characters April Dancer and Mark Slate portrayed by Stefanie Powers and Noel Harrison (son of Rex) - (Agents # 22 & 16 respectively) were first introduced on a "Man From" episode. At that time, these two characters were then FIRST portrayed by, Mary Ann Mobley (April), and Norman Fell (Mark). Out of the four of them, which portrayals of April and Mark did you prefer? Myself, I've always been partial to that of, Mary Ann Mobley and Norman Fell. These two seemed to me, to play these role more seriously that of Stefanie and Noel...in the sense that they did not present themselves as in the final series, more campish versions. It is MY belief that Stefanie's and Noel's role versions, was the reason behind the loss of ratings...and the eventual demise/cancellation, of The Man From U.N.C.L.E. What's your opinion? Whom did you prefer? c.d.r.x.o.

While I love Noel Harrison, a chip off the old Rexie block, I have to admit liking the idea behind the novice/older agent better. I actually had an idea about the names, to explain the differences in April/Marks... UNCLE had "names" that were used by various teams until the names actually became "attached" to a certain person. This would allow a female agent to be "designated" April Dancer until one became "identified" by Thrush as that name. While Mark Slade (Norman Fell) had been using the name, it hadn't been attached to him, and when he retired from field work, it moved on to the "new" Mark Slade (Noel) and did become attached to him. You think that maybe I spend too much time thinking about the Man From UNCLE? I've written fan fic for it, you can find it here: http://www.fanfictionwriters.com/Fics/viewuser.php?action=storiesby&uid=234 A Personal Christmas Carol, The Man from the Sky Affair and The Garden Party are all UNCLE.

That's actually not such a bad idea. It kind of reminds me of all the different guys who played James Bond. Like the British Secret Service, it'd keep T.H.R.U.S.H. on their toes. By the way, did you know that Ian Flemming was asked to be a consultant for The Man/Girl From U.N.C.L.E.? Yup...absolutely true. As a matter of fact, it was HE who came up with the name of "April Dancer".....so your idea just might have a point there. Re: Spend too much time thinking about U.N.C.L.E.? Never. After all, you wouldn't make much of a loyal agent now would you, if you didn't? Right? I'll take a "boo" at the fan fic....and by the way, that's SlaTe, not SlaDe. Cheers; cdrxo
