If someone speaks to me in Bisaya, I can understand it. BUT I can't reply to that person in the same dialect. I'll have converse with that person either in English or in Filipino. I'd like to learn how to speak Bisaya since I frequent provinces in the area for vacations. It's a plus because if you're buying souvenirs, the vendors can trick you. :D

How nice! I have a question. Are there different kinds of Visayan dialect? For instance, there are words spoken in Cebu that are not the same when you're in Mindanao. I'm not sure. I've been wanting to know. You might be able to enlighten me.

Isn't the Philippines an archipelago ( a group of many islands in a large body of water ) - made of 1,107 islands on high tides and 1,111 on low tides (right?). I spent my first couple of years there - then moved to California. I know how to speak Kapampangan. But not very fluent in tagalog, though I can understand. I just can't string words together so that they'd make sense. Here in the States - we all speak English. Interesting enough, the accent changes depending on where you are. And then the slang is also different depending on where you are. It's still English though! =P

Hey i'm from India. And here in India there are over 1000 dialects. No i'm not kidding. Theres 1652 dialects to be exact. As you can see its impossible to learn all the dialects. i just know abt 4 of these dialects. One is the national language and then there's my province language and then 2 of neighboring province languages. I really want to learn more languages but its impossible to learn all the dialects here.

Hi jhe, if I'm not mistaken, Philippines is a country made up of more than a thousand of islands. I haven't been to your country yet. As what I know, it's a wonderful country which is famous of its natural and fascinating beaches. Just same as yours, I live in a multi racial country as well. Other than my own dialect Hainan from my dad and Cantonese from my mom. I know to speak Fujian, Hakga, Malay as well. Yeah, if I have chance definitely I will try to learn more dialect. It's really convenient to understand and can talk with different dialects, so that we could communicate and have mutual interaction with others well. Happy posting

hello may friend. thanks for a wonderful response. anyways, maybe all of the continents here on earth have many races even on one island or archipelago but still we strive to communicate. and we try our best to know anything and everything in order for us to fully understand each other. and all i can say is that i am not a pure filipino in blood because of the inter continental marriages we have before we have our called independence. but still i am thankful to be one of a kind. and to be filipino. anyways, thanks my friend jhelai
