Thankfullly I've never been a nail biter! My Father though is the complete opposite and has bitten his for as long as I can remember. It doesn't leave the nails looking attractive at all and for the life of me, I don't understand how people end up with a habit like this one? But then again, we all have our nuances and I'm sure I have an equivalent. God knows what that nuance might be though!

I don't bite my nails... but i do have the habit of biting the side of my index finger whenever i feel bored... or when i am watching a movie that is not really that interesting... i guess this habit has a way of preoccupying me when i have nothing else to do... so to keep away from this... i make it a point to bring a book with me... or try to keep busy by looking at people around me...

I simply can't stand it when I see someone biting their nails. It puts me off.Quite disgusting. My son had this habit of always chewing his nails it just became a habit and he just could not get out of it.I had to get this bitter nail polish and try so many things to make him stop.I always keep my nails short.

LOL! Even if I am tense, I do not bite my nails. I feel that it is not a healthy habit and in fact it could harm us. Our nails have so many invisible harmful particles which could be determinatal to our health, therefore, we should avoid chewing our nails.

Hi Riya,
I saw your discussion earlier but I wanted to observe myself whether I have this habit or not, so I waited for some time. I thought that I don’t have this bad habit and was proud, when I read your discussion. After my observation I realized that I was wrong (lol). I have the habit, not always, sometimes waiting for impatiently I do this. For example the website is loading lately, or when I am waiting for my hubby in road side, if he is taking long time to reach etc.
Thanks riya for understanding my bad habit. I will change, it is not a big issue.

I have a lifelong habit of nailbiting. It is something that I have always had a problem with. I can grow them to a point, but whenever I get an attack of nervesor insecurity I will go after my nails like nobodies business. It is kind of sad. I have tried various methods to try to stop, but none of them seem to work.

I used to bite my nails when I was young. But I do not do it anymore. I stopped the habit when I started working. It is somewhat unhealthy on my part most especially that I work as a rescuer and handle patients. So obviously it would not be wise to have such habit of biting nails.

hahaha.. I remember biting my nails when I was a kid yet. As what I know, biting nails is a sign of insecurity. A person who bites his/her nails is insecure. They do that, as defense mechanism for their insecurities. Well, you can do something to improve that. what you are going to do is think, positively. Don;t get nervous, put it in mind that no body is perfect and everybody commits mistake. People who are tense and nervous, think that they are not good in doing things, and they are afraid that others will criticize them. But relax and think, that everybody commits mistake.

Next time I will check the amount of time I bite my nails. Actually rather then asking how often I bite my nails, you should ask in what circumstances do you bite your nails? I bite them when there is someone ahead of me in the line and I get the feeling that what I have with me is not on sale or the saleslady is going to take a break just then. I bite them when I feel threatened and when I am very nervous. I do not bite them when I am about to sing.
But there are some people who scare me.

My daughter is the one who bit her nails for years. Especially when she would get very nervous or upset. But often when she was bored, or very tired I would have to say something to her to make her take her fingers out of her mouth.
She fixed the bad habit by paying to get her nails done once a month with her own money. It was a great to get her to stop biting her nails. Now her own nails are long and pretty.

I have never had the habit of biting my nails and I do not like to see anyone biting their nails. My daughter had this habit from childhood but somehow these last three years she has started growing her nails and has beautiful nails now. If I see anyone bite their nails I always hit them on their hand.....

No I don't bite my nails and that has never become my habit. But my grandchildren at least two of them have been doing that and whenever I see them I'd call their attention. I don't think it is a good habit. How many germs and bacteria are there in the fingernails of man? But they are biting those nails!
